I've just moved into an apartment at West One but i've got no cooker! All I have is a combi microwave and I haven't got a clue what to do with it apart from cook ready made meals. I feel a little lost with the thing. Has any one got any recipe ideas or things that can be cooked in it?
BTW, I'm new to the forum so hi to everyone who reads this.
Is it combi-oven or combi-grill? What make?
edit: Hang on - you were just thinking 'I can't work this damn oven' so you typed 'Sheffield chat' into a search engine? No? Oh. What brought you here? Nice to meet you by the way.
I've browsed the forum for a bit now but I've never posted anything. Here's a bit of background on me:
I came to sheffield to go to Hallam for a computing degree that I graduated from about a year ago. I stayed in sheffield because I met my now ex-girfriend (split up last week :( ) who I had lived with for nearly 3.5 years. As I wanted to get the hell outa there I found a place in West One that I could move into straight away (I previously lived in a 1 bed with a cooker!. Now a uCube). That leads me on to the combination microwave/grill type thing. I not sure why I posted the subject here and didn't email Deila!
Nice to meet you 2 btw!
Hmm, looking about a bit this should of been posted in the general chit-chat section as it's not really about Sheffield. Oops!
ive got one im the same.how does one work it.
Sorry to hear about the circumstances that brought you and your combi together. And I can't help much coz mine's a bit different.
They're particularly helpful if you don't like soggy microwave food, or are too impatient to wait for the grill to do it's stuff. The microwave cooks inside out and the heat cooks otside in.
Experiment with cheese on toast, then see if it'll cope with a pizza or something.
If there's an instruction book, ignore it - they're always full of things you don't eat or the timings don't marry up with the instructions on your box of food! Err on the side of caution, and stick it back in if it's not done.
I usually use half microwave power and the temperature on the instructions, then cut the time by about a third. (I think, it's a while since I was that impatient):D
I've just been bought a combination microwave and my trusty normal microwave was taken to the dump.
I hate this new thing with a passion and give my OH grief every time I use it. (are you thinking ungrateful cow...maybe I am! :hihi:) It is a nightmare...take out this shelf ...put in this one.. press that...don't press this. I follow the instructions to the letter - and there are sooo many - and it has yet to turn out anything OK. The microwave has always been in an awkward place which we can't do anything about and very soon there will be a nasty accident (probably involving someone in the garden as it flies through the window!!)...and to add insult to injury it is a nightmare to clean!!:rant:
I have a combi microwave oven and I love it! I aint got a proper oven as my kitchen is under massive construction. I never use the grill though but the oven is great. I cook curries, casseroles and sunday roasts.

No tips required just use it as you would an electric oven. What problem do you have with it?

Where to start...... Did yours come with lots of shelves and racks and plates? These all have to come out...some are just for microwaving...others just for the convector (mix up at your peril according to instructions!) This is all very well but where to put them is annoying. The convector seems to have a hot spot so I get one hard inedible bit...this can be meat or potato or whatever so it's not fussy!! The convector is slow (apart from the hot spot) but if I decide to hurry it up by giving it a micro blast..all the shelves trays etc have to be changed over again. I've only had it a fortnight so maybe with a bit of perseverance it may work out...but I am thinking of eating out every night!! Any tips for this weeks Lottery Numbers?? :D
Mine's a combi with an oven in too- it can turn out anything from crunchy roast potatoes in 20 mins from raw to really lovely cakes.
The big issue with it for me is that I can't put 8 things in at the same time like I can with my big oven- I find it very frustrating.

Mine just cane with a rack for grilling but otherwise I just bung things in like I would an oven and hey presto! Everything I cook does so evenly so sorry cant help with yours. Not meaning to be cheeky but was a cheap one? This is the second one I have had and this time paid £100 for it and it seems better than the last one.
