Just in case you've been on another planet for past few months and/or failed to see my fundraising thread... I will be running the streets of London come Sunday morning. I trust you all will be showing your support by tuning into BBC1 for live commentary and cheering me on for the 26.2 miles :)

BTW... I will be wearing a black Meningitis Trust vest and will probably be at the back of the pile :D I will make a point of mentioning the forum should I be stopped by any of the BBC commentators along the course :D:D

All the very best and I hope you raise lots of cash.

I've done a couple of Sheffield Half Marathons (not as brave as you see!) on behalf of Weston Park and the feeling you get crossing the line and knowing someone is going to benefit from your efforts, is exhillarating.

After pressure from American chocolate manufacturers, I've heard that from next year the event will be renamed "The London Snickers".

The race starts at 9:45 and I reckon I will be doing the moonie around 12:30 :D

Seriously, I would be happy with 4 hours 30 or so. I'm not looking for a world record or anything, just get around in one piece.

Well, here I am...

26.2 miles later, 2 pounds lighter, 6233 calories emptier, sunburnt and have more blisters than you could imagine :)

Anyhow, the race started well at 9:45, it took me a mere 12 mins to cross the start line. The weather was great, I think it was around 22 degrees with very little cloud cover for the first 3 hours so which made retaining fluid very hard. The first 8 miles were great as I sailed along the roads of Greenwich etc.. but after 8 miles cramp set in my right leg and made running a little more challenging. I pushed on until the 14 mile mark when my leg just didn't want to work anymore so I pulled up and contemplated what I was going to do next. I didn't want to disappoint everyone that had kindly supported and sponsored me so I decided I was going to continue no matter what and surely enough I limped on at snails pace. I finally crossed the finish line 6 hours after I started in Greenwich, totally shattered, in pain and a bit emotional. I was disappointed that the race had took me so long, but on the other hand the feeling of achievement was so great.

Onwards and upwards as I plan my next marathon lol

DD.. Congratulations on finishing it... How long it took you is irrelevant... YOU DID IT !!

I told quite a few people about you running in it yesterday, and they all said they'd never even attempt to try and run to the shops, never mind run a marathon..:hihi:
You should be chuffed to bits with yourself...

I hope you've got plenty of time to rest and recover..
You're gonna need it..:D

Well done DD, It is right what some posters have said that the time you did it means nothing at all, You did it and that's the main thing that you wanted to do it and have done for your charity. I know i could not have done the running even thoe ever year i watch it i say i would do it next time.

I heard on the news a 22 year old man died this morning after finishing the marathon yesterday.

As sad as that news is, it doesn't surprise me given the conditions as it was very hot and there was little, if any, shade to avoid the sun. I witnessed at least 3 people on various parts of the course getting carted off into ambulances and saw many more ambulances rushing around.
