View Full Version : Old Tower
Bikertec 06-11-2004, 22:51 Does anyone know what the old tower is called on the old woodhead road, the road that runs through grenowoods. Its set back in a little wood just before the woodhead road meets stocks bridge byepass. Any info on the building would be appreciated. :-)
Many thanks
Do you mean the water tower right up in the very top corner of High Green? Opposite the petrol station on the main road?
Bikertec 07-11-2004, 00:21 No the one im on about is on the top road the little country road top of grenoside.
I'd be interested to know why you're asking - is the tower reputedly haunted? Tell us more.
PaulTansley 07-11-2004, 09:33 I pass through that road in training most days and gotta admit to not seeing that tower.
Is it past Rainbow dog kennels by any chance.
Greybeard 07-11-2004, 10:44 The only thing showing on the 2.5 inch map is the water tower close by Carlton House, - on the other side of the road to Wharncliffe reservoir.
Bikertec 07-11-2004, 10:47 Yes past rainbow kennels about 50 yards up from Stockbridge bypass junction in a little wooded area. just past a little farm. : D

Ah, that'll be the strange Disappearing Tower of Wharncliffe. Well worth an investigation. :hihi:
Aint seen you since the Queen's Head investigation at Sheffield city center - probably the most uneventful night on record. You scared them away, mate. ;)
Bikertec 07-11-2004, 14:09 Hi Mate do I know you ????
I'm a founder member of the Yorkshire Paranormal Society. And I was talking to Cycleracer. lol
Bikertec 07-11-2004, 14:32 opps sorry Im an ex member of YPS too :D Pleased to meet you.
Likewise. A former member, really? So what's this Sheffield Paranormal Group? I presume you're a member of that one?
Bikertec 07-11-2004, 14:38 Yes a new group we started :D
Ahhh! Now I know who you are. Er, I think. Are you the guy who’s wife is a medium? (Sorry, I don’t know your name).
I don’t know if you know much about its origins, but I jointly set up the Yorkshire Paranormal Society with the aim of being an open-minded, almost sceptical group - what couldn’t be scientifically measured wouldn’t be of much interest or make much impression on us. This ruled out the use of mediums in investigations – not that we thought all mediums were charlatans, but unless we utilized them for publicity, they would play no part in our setup.
Having said that, a medium joined the group and wanted to assist in investigations (was it your other half?) and in my absence, some of the YPS team held a join investigation with a southern group who’s setup was reliant on mediums. I didn’t feel it was in keeping with the YPS setup, and left.
I’ve since heard, actually, that mediums wont be used in future YPS investigations. Is that why you left? I intend to help realign the group again by New Year with the original co-founder, so I’m guessing if there are no mediums left in the group, the way should be fairly clear.
I’m sure there’s room in Yorkshire for two groups: a return to YPS’s original rigid scientific setup and a presumably Most Haunted type mediumistic one like your own. Good luck with it, anyway.
I notice there’s both an orb and mist photograph on your website. What’s the story behind these pictures and where were they taken?
Nice to say hello. Regards to the missus, but she'll already know I've said that without you telling her. :)
Bikertec 07-11-2004, 17:18 Thank You Ant
very nice of you to wish us luck I do hope you make a go of the old group are you keeping the name or going with a differnt one.
Thanks again and lots of luck in the future from both of us. :D
Very little will change. The Yorkshire Paranormal Society has always had a good reputation for investigation standards, quality newsletters and a good website. It's mainly the unfortunate lapse into the use of mediums that needed overhauling. No disrespect, but I've never met a medium of any scientific interest. I've always thought that investigory bodies that rely heavily on them are kidding themselves. Unfortunately Most Haunted has a great deal to answer for; in my opinion there are too many groups springing up from nowhere playing at you-be-Derek-Accorah-and-I'll-be-Yvette-Fielding. I suppose there's a market for these groups, afterall, the viewing figures for Most Haunted are substantial, but it's a question of how much faith can you put in them?
Anyway, as I said, best of luck with yours. Most Haunted is great entertainment if little else - I try not to miss a show. If the world can enjoy Most Haunted alongside Horizon and QED, then I can live with a local medium-based paranormal investigation group. Enjoy yourselves. :hihi:
Bikertec 07-11-2004, 23:32 Sorry but couldn't watch a full program of most haunted it just makes me cringe. Do people realy think we act like that its so fake. Anyway best of luck with yours as well.:D
Your missus must be a one off. All the mediums I've ever met overact ! I thought it came with the job description. lol
Bikertec 07-11-2004, 23:47 Not my missus my girl friend and yes she is very very good even though certain people disagree.:D
Could she do me an online, Sheffield Forum reading? See my new thread:
here it be (http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?s=&postid=204593#post204593)
Bikertec 08-11-2004, 12:24 Hi Ant Brenda would love to do you a reading, she is willing even to give you a discount. But does not give free online readings as you will find that no self respecting Medium would. So she could do one at your home or hers all details can be found at
http://www.destined.to/sacredearth
Thanks again:D

You scared them away, mate. ;) Thats true, the problem is I now do nights regular and which includes weekends so my chances to get out and about with you lot are some what restricted.
Try and get on a biggy with you like Derby.

Hmm, not quite sure what to read into that, Biker. Is it because it's free, or because it's online? Why would a medium NOT want to demonstrate her abilities online? They would have my full permission to divulge information of a personal nature. And it would bring extra trade in for them - I've yet to meet one that doesn't charge.
In my opinion, no self-respecting medium would charge fifteen-or-so quid for giving intuitive advice. I've had many, many sittings with mediums, none of whom have charged under fifteen quid, whose advice has been verbal garbage. I may as well have given the money to charity. The trouble is, every time I tell people this, there's always one person that chips in with "ah, but I know a real medium, Ant. This one's genuine, mate. And she only chrages fourteen fifty." So I go along, and lo-and-behold! ...garbage.
I'm not saying your girlfriend is not the real mcCoy, but I aint throwing my income away on any more mediums on anyone's recommendation (esp. the boyfriend's!!)
Just thought we could drop the charges, and test them all out in full public view. I honestly didn't expect any takers. If they are indeed garbage, the whole of the forum would see it. Crash n burn, baby. Not good for the career. lol
MOD:Could all contributors please stay on topic and use the chat room or pm facility for one to one conversations? Thank you.
Sorry, Max. But sometimes a thread can develop into a one-to-one. Though this one was just a trifle off topic.
