Hi,
I'm looking to find a film of a book I read at school, but I can't for the life of me remember the title of either. The storyline is basically a teenage girl and her younger brother are the only survivors of a plane that crashes in the middle of the Australian outback. They set off to find help and bump into an aborginal male who ison "walkabout" in the jungle. They eventually find help, but as a I remember the Aborginal male dies. Does anyone know the title? I really want to find it again because the film is realy good. :hihi:

It's called "Walkabout". Directed by Nick Roeg I think.

Oh and I don't know about the book, but in the film it's not a plane crash. They're taken out there by their father who then kills himself, leaving them to fend for themselves.

"Walkabout" with Jenny Agutter.

None of the characters seems to have a name ~ they are referred to as "Girl", "White Boy" "Aboriginal Boy" etc.

The book and the film may have slightly different plotlines, as they may have tampered with it for the film.

Oftentimes, in films based on books, the only thing that's left of the author's original story is the title (look at the latest film of the story, "I Robot", which is not that close to Isaac Asimov's novel's original premise) once "Hollywood" gets its hands on the story.

In the book, yes, it's a plane crash, in the film, the children are abandoned.

The bit that reallly made me cry in the story was the Aborigine boy, thinking that the girl's fear of him as a "black" was her "seeing death in his eyes". that's the bit that really stuck in my mind.

We studied the book at school, for our English course. I didn't find the film as gripping as the book, TBH.

"Mary" & "Peter" are named in the book.
