take a look at the link, to us its relatively harmless horse play but to the asian community where public shows of affection are taboo its caused outrage .... can bollywood stars cross the great divide of religion, custom and culture and become a star in the west whilst remaining a bollywood princess?

I think that the demonstrations were from a minority, right-wing, nationalist group.
Probably of no significance.

I also thought that her Bollywood value was declining and this prompted her moves to try and establish a presence outside India.

It does seem a shame that the divide between the two cultures seems so very wide. Isnt it a shame that we as a race cant respect eachothers religions/cultures without it becoming a such a dividing factor.

But that's just it.

It's probably NOT a divide between the great mass of people. It's a divide between conservatives and the vast majority of people who're more liberal.

The issue of public demonstrations of affection is a 'hot' one in India right now with numerous young people being arraested for kisisng in public. This was a daft thing for Gere to do but I doubt that the demonstration reflects the feelings of the vast majority.

Haven't right-wing action groups got anything better to do with their time?

Apparently not. Oh well, today's Daily Mail front page is tomorrow's chip shop wrapping.
