We are lucky here in Devon as we have the famous Ottery St. Mary tar barrels on Bonfire Night (look it up on google). Basically, a hundred thousand people flock into the streets of a small Devon village where locals put huge flaming tar barrels on their shoulders and run through the crowd. - an obscure tradition dating back hundreds of years, although it was supposed to have something to do with cleansing the streets of evil spirits. The fun is in everyone diving out of the way to avoid them and everyone (mostly crazy students from Exeter) try to get as near to the barrels as possible without being fried.

The also have a massive bonfire, fireworks and the fair and the last barrel is carried (run) through the square at midnight. It is brilliant fun, but each year the event is in doubt as they have problems getting insurance. Yet another one of our English traditions under threat, which is ridiculous given that this spectator event carries bigger crowds than any major sporting event.

I didn't celebrate it but if I had celebrated it then it would have been on the actual day,

Given our history this may seem unusual but I agree with Lickszz. Can we add another category, didn't?
