yeah I loved his shows. much like peely he was someone who presented with a genuine passion for what he was doing.

Very intelligent guy too who was often percieved otherwise because of his broad regional accent and eccentric way.

I hope they re-run some of historical engineering shows.

Great knowledge. Great passion. Great person. RIP Fred.

Fred was a real personality. I just loved his enthusiasm for anything engineering related. He wasnt exactly a natural tv presenter, but his willingness to have crack made his programmes pure gold.

'did yer like that?'

oh yes fred...we did:cry:

That is so sad. I liked old Fred, he was a genuine bloke and a real character.

I was lucky enough to meet Fred once a number of years ago, when he visited Fleetwood with his beloved steam roller! He was allready famous by then and despite the huge crowd who gathered around him, he took the time to talk to everyone.

I wonder what will happen to his wonderful house and workshop? I hope the grounds are kept as they are and opened to the public one day. What a great historic and educational attraction it would be. Not to mention a great tribute to a great man!

Dorm pot!

Fred was one of the great British eccentrics, a huge interest in life, not frightened to say he was proud to be an Englishman, not the slightest bit frightened to be different, long may his type be enjoyed.

This is the first I've heard of his passing.
He was a great bloke and I had the pleasure of meeting him earlier this year on his green steam tractor in Sheffield.

Fred Was Not The kind of person who took himself too Sereusly.
He liked a laugh and would Not like people getting down in the mouth over his passing away. I liked his shows very much.

Hope they let him wear that cap to his funeral ;)

Saw one of his programmes on UKTV HISTORY last night. He was talking about the birth of his first son to his second wife.

"Out he plopped, looked to be in good nick."

Classic Fred.

It's been great to see Fred's last series on telly, when he is taking his traction engine around the U.k. also good to see him steaming up Winkobank hill, even if it was pi****g it down, he also visited Abbeydale industrial museum before departing Sheffield. It's a pity they did not include the River Don engine at Kelham island, that would have made Fred's eyes light up!

I wish :( He was ace. Bringing down chimneys in a way that would bring fear to the hearts of high-viz vest wearers the world over, and digging big mine shafts in his garden because he could. He made engineering exciting, which I ordinarily find completely boring.

Fred Dibner was a legend...completely in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Still he is up there (if there is an "up there") now swapping ideas with Isambard Kingdom Brunel and will be in his element.

The only guy who made chimneys and steam engines sound exciting, and yet he made it sound so simple. I could quite happily watch Mr Dibnah for 2-3 hours at a time.

Yeah I have reanimated him. He can't climb chimneys very well any more due to using other body parts but he is as good as new.

Fred was great, and I love his accent and passion with which he spoke on subjects he cared deeply about. A normal man who got lucky and made a good living doing what he loved.

Anyway, he is available for parties or bouncy castles. Give me a call.

Engineering in itself is exciting, its all about problem solving and if you aint got the tool to do it.....make it! bodgeing with class in a way...

I still miss Freds programs, he put engineering across in a way that made it look easy as well as interesting.

I think he must still have a large following of fans, as there are around 30 people on 'Friend's Reunited' by the name of Fred Dibnah.

You never die on cable tv, just get repeated endlessly.
