View Full Version : Good Indian Restaurant
wsanderson 06-11-2004, 12:22 Can anyone recommend a good Indian restaurant? I used to eat in the Himylayan just off the top of West Street but sadly it has now been demolished. Also I wondered if anybody knew whether the owner of the old Himylayan set up anywhere else locally?
Randy Savage 06-11-2004, 13:00 Hi there. I can highly recommend Mangla on Spital Hill or Gulshan on the Wicker.
Enjoy!
Can thoroughly recommend 7 Spices in West Bar/Shalesmoor. Never had a bad meal there. Their chefs special is to die for.
PerlOfWisdom 06-11-2004, 20:43 Butlers Balti on Brook Hill - opposite the old Jessops Hospital. Great food, massive selection and you don't usually have to book.
Full menu on their web site http://www.butlersbalti.co.uk
Kashmir Curry Centre on Spital Hill.
Always fantastic food, and embarassingly cheap. You can get beers from the easthouse pub across the road and bring them across.
enjoy!

Randy Savage 07-11-2004, 14:56 Didn't think Kashmire Curry centre was open anymore?

the little india restaurant at Gleadless Townend is absolutely fabulous. It only opened up this summer after the italian restaurant there closed down. The food is always delicious (I can recommend the Chicken Makhoni), the service prompt and courteous. It is starting to get busy so its worth booking as its only a smallish place. They also do takeaways!

got to second this recommendation.
The usual problem with Indian restaurants is lack of consistency. You go once and its amazing, the next time its dire (usual excuse being the chef is off that night).
7 spices is the best, whether for eating in or taking out. Plus, being out of the way, they aren't trying to cater for people after the pubs. Their food tastes great even when you are sober.
steevie/d 08-11-2004, 19:15 alhameer at retford rd attercliffe g8 meals yum ...yum...

I'll second that they are very good.
Their Madrass is as hot as a Vindaloo so watch out for that ;)
NatalieSheff 09-11-2004, 13:37 is it the mangler or something near wicker - rough as owt, but good food im told
mjlacey21 11-11-2004, 12:17 know the one you mean in wicker, strange little place but the best food ever!!
I find Nirmal's on West Street the only one I truly like. Someone recommended one in Crookes, on Northfield Road near Loxley View, I think.

I've not been to many Indian restaurants (prefer Chinese) but I really like Sahib's on West Street.
Lovely food, great service.
Been to vijays ... like the environment .... Good for a couple's night out.
Anyway ... anyone been to the indian buffet restaurant near devonshire green? i passed by it the other day , i think it's a new one. Price range from 4+ to 9+ depending on time and days.
I think it's something called cha cha's indian buffet.
anyidea?

Yeah, went on Friday.. Thought it was ace but only 4 of us went.. Going to take about 15 of us next time.. They won't know what's hit 'em :D
There's a thread on it already Here (http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?s=&threadid=19428)
startingout 18-11-2004, 14:47 The Indian in Crookes is called Jaaflong (there may only be one 'a' in this, my spelling never was great!). It is fab - the food is great and the naan breads are so big they hang down the side of the table! Its only very small - like eating in someones living room - and if it's full they normally send you to the pub across the road whilst you wait. The only 'problem' is that it takes all night to get your food, but if you're not in a rush then it's worth the wait!
I will also agree with the statements about Amraj near crystal peaks - they're in new premises now and it's very posh, all fountains and a guard with a sword on the door (I am not making this up!!). Food is good too!!
bottom of skyedge next door to the two chinky's.........why they have two chinese take aways next door to each other is beyond me btw:confused:   .....but back to the indian..is it any good?
Havent tried that one, but we usually use Rasheeds on MAnor Top, or Little India on Gleadless Townend. Both of them do delivery, and havent had anything from them yet to complain about.
the new place on city road is spot on tanzeela's.at the moment they have a buy one get one free offer on (main meal) me and the misis have had 3 over the last week and it was lovley.

lazyfish 30-11-2004, 10:29 Agree about Kashmir and Everest - both excellent in my experience. Cha Chas is great too... not sure about the Phil Collins album they had on last week though... :)
Does anyone know a place that does a good veggie vindaloo?
i would definately agree kashmir curry house on spittal hill is the best, and the owners an absolute ledge - hes called paul and gives good banter with the service.
