How have you upgraded your PC? Do you mean the operating system to Vista? If so, have you downloaded the very latest iTunes software and the Vista drivers for the iPod?

If you've upgraded/changed it enough that it's effectively a new computer, then the iPod will need re-syncing with the machine. It probably thinks you've gone to a different computer.

You might lose all the tracks on the iPod though... if this is a problem, there are ways of mounting the iPod as a drive to get the files off first.

There was major issues with itunes 7 . Both my G3 ipods were blanked by it although files were on itunes said not.

I upgraded to latest itunes and the error was fixed. It was something to do with iTunes driver allocating wrong drive letters to the ipods so it conflicted with either your PC's hard disk or optical drive. This was rendering the ipod useless untill the ipod was formated and another drive letter was allocated.

I found that out after i formated mine then Ipod put out a fix
