If any could help would be appreciated.

I have a diesel peugeot 306 car. I try turning the key to start the car, and the engine will not start after 2-3 trys the car just goes dead and wont even try to tick over to start as tho theres no power.

I have to bump start the car every morning after its starts its fine after kicking out aload of crap through the exhaust.

anyone had simlar problems?

My first thoughts would be that there's not enough juice in your battery, which could well signify an alternator problem.

have you tried replacing fuel filter it could be blocked if its not been changed in a while.

My bets on the battery. I twon't last for ever regardless of the alternator's contribution.

Have you no jump leads?

If the battery wasn't going dead so quickly, I would have said it was the glo-plugs which were knackered.

It sounds like the batterys croaked it. If the alternator was faulty, the battery light would be lit when the engine was running.

I'm thinking it may be a battery problem too.

Is it possible to disconnect it and charge it up overnight some time?

I had a diesil 306 a few years ago, it was the 1.9 model and they do hammer the battery!!!, if you havn't ever changed it then it deffo sounds like thats your problem, especially as it will run with a bump start, it should not go dead after 2 attempts to start it!!
Remember tho, its a seriusly heavy duty battery you need

Sounds Like The Glow Plugs , My Renault Did The Same Last Week
£20 Set Of Glow Plugs Starts First Time Now .
Battery Will Go Flat If You Turn The Ignition On & Off As Glow Plugs
Use A Lot Of Power To Warm Up .
Change Them It Will Be Ok Im Sure .
Not A Big Job Just Like Changing Spark Plugs!

eliminate the two, borrow a battery, try it,if it fails get the glow plugs changed, had similar problem and it was the plugs but tried a friends battery first to save unneccessary expence

Does it start again OK after a run of 20 minutes or so. If it's just the same then I'd certainly think that the battery's not holding the charge. Buy a new one anyway, you know it makes sense.
