How much you paid? £8.95 on Play.com, I bet it's about 10 or 11 quid on Amazon or HMV.

Yeah I will be buying it.

I have (like most people) heard all the album from the leaks a fortnight ago - 505 is my favourite so far. Had most of them but suddenly they didn't work anymore.. don't think I downloaded them properly.. however if you look on You tube and the Arctics site, people keep adding links (and getting banned for the privilege!) Wanted to know some of the new songs before next weekends gigs.

Tee hee! :hihi:

In addition to Phil's post Q magazine have given it 5 stars and a classic motif.
It's not as rocky as all the press have been making it out to be though, there are quite a few ballads on there.

Never believe what Q Magazine review. They gave the Paris Hilton album 3 stars.

As for the Arctic Monkeys. Well, every time I hear Alex Turner's whiny impression of George Formby it makes my skin crawl.

Ah she'll have paid for that though... and have you bought it to check it out? No. So we'll stay safe in the ignorance that it's a moderately good album then.

Alex Turner can come round and clean my windows.

We're going to have some signed Arctic Monkeys stuff on raffle and auction for the Paul Hunter Foundation Fundraiser on Saturday

http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=204986

We also have the shirt that Chris McClure wore on the front cover of Arctic Monkeys - Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not which will be going on a charity auction on ebay fairly soon.

I've already got it, and, to be honest, as much as I'm a fan of theirs, I'm disappointed in it. I'm not saying its a bad album per se, just that I was expecting, and believe they could have done, much better.

Regardless of what you think of the music, the record company must have spent a huge amount of money promoting the Arctic Monkeys album, and several careers must be riding on how it sells.
Call me cynical, but the album reviews I've seen look more like press releases than genuine opinions. I'm not suggested reviewers can be 'bought', but you have to wonder.......

Basil I have noticed on any thread where arctic and/or monkeys are used in a post you jump on the offensive. Are you a closet fan or something? Be honest, if its any consolation we will have as much respect for you as we did before finding out

I have enough stalkers on here without you joining in, young man!

Seriously, if there's one thing I can't bear it's mediocre, bland, predictable music being hyped to the extreme, of which the worst (but by no means only) current example is the Arctic Monkeys.

As they're from Sheffield, they obviously get a lot of mentions on here. Where appropriate, I step in to offer my opinion, as an alternative to the blind loyalty of the "It's brilliant cos the NME/ Q/ the BBC say so" mob.

I completely agree with that point, yes, they ain't great....and you would think judging by the hysteria they are the next Beatles. I think they are good, but not my favourite band.

As for NME and Q. Don't get me started. Inverted snobbery crap when it comes to music. I had the displeasure of working at HMV once and my opinion being disregarded in one conversation due to me not reading the then current issue of NME's article on the then new release of the U2 Album "How to detonate an atomic bomb (?)" Which you should now find in any participating poundland store.

And as Tony will tell you, after camping out the night before its release at Asda, its not as good as David Hasselhoffs greatest hits

I think the album's definitely a grower...

But in response to the OP's question... Yes, i will be buying it when it comes out. :D

What did everyone reckon to the B-sides on the Single?
I really love that little opening number. The track with dizzee rascal on is pretty good too, although i was disappointed that he only appears for about 30 seconds in a 3 min 30 sec track. It's like they had the track already done, then stuck his bit into it afterwards... rather than that they 'worked together' on a song.

Have you noticed the writing credit for Johanna on Fluorescent Adolescent? (Bennett) That will set her up with a nice little trust fund, if it's the next single as predicted.

I'm into old yellow bricks now. Was the one that didn't grab me at first but I love it now.

Do people actually buy singles any more ? and if they do how much do you think the bang gets from each sale. It's not like in the 80's where millions of singles were sold, now they make money from ringtones.

I heard it the other day. Really it isn't that good. Come on, I know there's a lot of fans on here, but it's a weak album isn't it?

The jury is still out here, I have given it a couple of listens. Some tracks are good, it may grow on me.

That sounds like a quote from A certain romance Nick.
This is true.. but there are the downloads and I'm sure she also probably gets 1/100 of every album sold or something.. dunno how the Munkeys split their royalties.

Did you also notice the lyric credit to McClure for Old Yellow Bricks. I assume that's "The Reverend" McClure, rather than "WPSIA,TWIN"-front-cover-man McClure?

I thought the same. I really wanted to like it, but came away from it dissapointed. Its not a bad album, I just think I was expecting so much better. And thats coming from a fan

Now had time to give this a good listen and I rate is almost as high as the first album. With perhaps one weakish track, this is a step forward for the Monkeys and confirms Turner as a top songwriter.

Nice one!

It's allegedly the hotel room in America where Alex once went straight after a gig to meet Johanna.
Shows the development of his maturity between getting a bit Frank Spencer and having girls waiting with their hands between their thighs.;)
