Click on searchpicturesheffield - on the keyboard "H", scroll down to Handsworth and you'll find an option for the church. Hope that works.

Can anyone let me know where St James Church, Handsworth is.

It has come up on my family records and I wondered if there was any graves there?

I would appreciate if anyone would let me know.

Happy Days!

Was Mary Wood the Sunday School Queen in the early 60s?

Hi PopT

St James church is actually at Tithe Barn Lane Woodhouse.
This was designated an ecclisiastical district in 1875 and became a seperate parish, created from Handsworth, when the church was built in 1878. Before the church was built services were held in the Endowed school. The church was built on the site of Handsworth tithe barn, on land donated by Thomas Cadman.
Before this Woodhouse was in the parish of Handsworth St Marys.

There are no burial registers for St James only Baptisms from 1875 and Marriages from 1878.
There is a cemetery ar Revill Lane which is close by this also opened in 1875 and another at Stradbroke Road which was originally a burial ground of Handsworth Burial Board and opened in 1879.

I have the burial transcriptions for Revill Lane.

I lived at Page Hall but for some time went to a Youth Club at Handsworth Methodist church around 1960 or a little later. Anyone else go there?
