Though not strictly in Sheffield, Wards Aquatics@Wards Garden Centre in Coal Aston (or is it Eckington..) is very good and has a nice selection of different fish including Marines.

You can vist Pastures Farm Koi and Tropicals while up at Coal Aston as well, thats a nice shop with friendly staff.

Maples Aquatics up in Stocksbridge is very good as well, very friendly helpful staff and nice selection of fish.

There's also Mastin Moore Aquatics just out near Chesterfield, Wharf Aquatics in Pinxton (highly reccomended) and Blue Lagoon which is also just outside of Pinxton.

On Sheffield Aquatics, it has quite a good selection of African Rift Lake Chiclids but some of the fish I saw there looked quite poorly (whitespot) and the Marine section was very poor, looked like it had been cobbled together TBPH and most of the fish in there looked ill.

The best shop in the UK if you have transport is just down the M1 :-http://www.wharfaquatics.co.uk/
In Sheffield I agree Langsett Rd is the best, but check out the link.
They also sell snakes and lizards, chameleons etc.

I also would highly recommend Viscum. They have three garden centres all in Doncaster area : Barnburgh, Markham Grange and Finningley.
I've visited the Barnburgh shop and the staff are very pleasent, knowledgeable and helpfull. Stock is superb.
Well worth the visit believe me.

See the following for info and directions.

Viscum is good, but Wharf is better if you can put up with driving a bit further. Wharf has an excellent range of fish in stock.

I'd personally recommend taking the trip to Wharf Aquatics, especially since they've just been voted Overall, Regional and Tropical Freshwater Retailer of the Year in the Practical Fishkeeping Magazine awards.

Wards Aquatics is probably the only other shop I'd recommend in the area.

if you do go to Wharf Aquatics, as you come out of the village instead of turning right back to the motorway, turn left for a mile or so as you go downhill on the left is a garden centre and craft thingy which sells fish and stuff. They usually have a good selection of aquarium plants.Come out of there and turn left again and you soon come to the Chesterfield rd.Makes a change from the motorway.

After trawling round and round for ages in Sheffield to find a decent outlet, we also ended up at Viscum, the one near Harlington, and what a joy it was too. I have not seen such good service for years - nothing was too much trouble for them (I lost count of the number of coffees we were offered by the staff) - highly recommended.

If you care about your fish, you will not go to Langsett road's aquatic centre. The tanks are digusting, half the fish are dead, and the prices are ridiculous.
(Not to mention they dont sell the basics!)

Instead, go to Fish inc, near asda. It's brilliant. Wild horses couldnt drag me away from that place.

Me as well. I go for the Marines but still have a look around the Tropical section and it's the best i've ever seen, literally hundreds and hundreds of different species.

I haven't been to Viscum for a long time but that used to be good as well.

Dobbies at barlborough have a good aquatic section. I`d also reccomend the one at lane top and the one in chapeltown.

I certainly would not recommend Lane top or Chapeltown.

Sheffield Aquatics have greatly improved and are updating their shop at the moment. Fish Inc at Handsworth is very good too. Avoid Viscum like the plague.

Wharf, Maples and Sheffield Aquatics all good, as is Derwent at the garden centre in Bamford. It may have been a bad day when I visited, but the one and only time I went to Viscum the tanks were far too highly overstocked and the fish weren't in a particularly good state.

At Lane Top the owner doesn't care much for the welfare and there are often fish left dying whilst he stands in the front of the shop. At Chapeltown they stock dyed fish. When I went there the fish were poor quality with sunken stomachs.
As for Viscum I agree with Hobbit. They also sell fish as soon as they are imported without adequate quarantine first.

Maples has long since closed down. Derwent Koi and Tropical are excellent and She often stocks more unusual fish. Another decent shop is Rainbow Aquatics at Mexborough. There is soon to be another Pet shop selling fish opening in Chapeltown, it's going to be on Burncross road opposite the swimming baths I think.
