Gert has just had her first baby its little brown cutie. Shes been sat cleaning it and every so oftern wanders off for some hay, and the baby is sat trying to chew the house and picking up sawdust!!
I managed to shoo everyone away from the piggie room so she can have a bit of peace with it and maybe another, the vet said she might have 2!!

Im a granny!!

Congrats. :) Did the vet say there could be any problems with it being her brother that could have mated with her? (that was you wasnt it?) :)

She didn't say anything but with all in-breeding there could be genetic problems etc.
It looks ok at the moment, shes snuggled up, i dont see another baby and its been a while so maybe its just the one. It looks quite big.

Pigs usually litter within 20 minutes, so if its been any longer thats probably it

Hi B_M i was wondering at what age i can handle the baby, i wanted to give mom and baby a check and get them weighed. Also when would be ok to give the cage a clean as i did a scoop of the messy bits last night but the bit in the bed where she and the baby are is looking messy.

You can handle the babies as soon as they are dry, just don't handle them for too long, or if mum appears distressed. Gradually increase the time you hold them for over aperiod of weeks. You must seporate girls from boys at 3 weeks old.

As for the cleaning, I'd leave it a day or two for them to settle, then do it

If you need any more info please feel free to pm me.

Heres a piccy, its not very good as it was taken in poor light on my phone, i thought my phone would be less scary than a huge digi cam!

Yep just the 1, its brown all over except for a white chin. Its been eating carrot this afternoon and i believe its a boy if my sexing is correct.
it may be a little early to sex it but from what i see at the moment it looks like a boy i will have to check again when its a little older.

Best time to do it is usually around 2 weeks, that way the "bits" are a little bigger. He looks very nice tho :)
