If you are just on about the laser lense yopu can buy a cleaning cd.

Just slot it in and a little brush cleans dust off.

I used to clean my own once the guy at the shop showed me how. But basically you just un-screw it all take the lid off and wipe the laser lens with some alcohol maybe with cloth or cotton bud. Make sure you don't leave any fluff on.

What ever you do don't buy a lens-cleaning disc. Both Playstation's help line and the guy behind the counter at the video games shop said it ruins the lens!

Other advice direct from playstation was to make sure you lay your console flat and not have it stood on end for long periods of time. Apparently the whole stand on end thing was a gimmick and if they are stood on end for long periods (Six months +) of time they are more likely to brake down

One final on was to place the nosel from a vacuum cleaner over the back near the fan and hover it every six months (Seriously I got this directly from PS Helpline)

By the above I got about another 18 months out of my already 2 year old machine and I had some marathon sessions of 12hour gaming.

If only three months old I would take it back, full stop.
Otherwise mine being older, just stopped workin altogether, bought PS3 instead! but in between got a head cleaner off ebay and console worked fine up until breakdown! borrow my headcleaner if u wanna

When i had this problem with my old PS2 I found a guide on the net for what to do (basically unscrew all the screws on the bottom of the ps2 and carefully open it up and swab the lens with a cotton bud). But it didn't actually fix the problem, so I got another one instead. The lens cleaning discs had no effect at all.

My PS2 plays games, they load up but they go really slow and jump all the time, might just buy a new one when i get paid, its much easier.
