I have a laptop, and no matter what I clean my computer screen with, it always looks streaky. I usually use a kitchen antibacterial wipe to clean it and then a piece of kitchen towel to dry it, but have been told this is wrong and could damage the screen. Is there a special product I can buy to do this job ?

There are various ones around it's just a question of testing. I find a lint-free cloth with warm water works fine for me.

I use a baby wipe and then buff with a dusting cloth if needed.

haven't tried these myself and they seem expensive but are supposed to be the bee's knees.

I use Wilkinson's Nursery Surface Wipes. They're un-moisturised and smell alcoholic! :)

I then use a soft cloth to remove any smears I get, but arrely get any smearing. If it's a laptop / LCD screen just remember not to press TOO hard as the surface is more easily scratched than old style 'glass' screens, unless they display has a protective layer on it.

Same here. Same for my LCD TV as well (got the cloth with it). Standard cleaning stuff for electrical kit just seems to leave streaks all over in my experience.

Thanks JoeP, have made a note of that.

Don't use kitchen towels to clean laptop or monitor screens! They're not designed for wiping anti-glare coated surfaces and may scratch them. Use proprietary screen cleaning wipes instead. You can pick them up cheap from many supermarkets.

Do you mean spectacle wipes, or proper screen cleaning wipes.? Ive never seen any, but will look in Tescos.

You should only ever use a damp cloth to clean an lcd screen . I was unsure when i got mine so i sent an email to Xerox who made the monitor . And thats the advice they gave me :)

the guy at my local PC engineer shop ( it's not a pc shop as these install networking systems for major companys and sell parts as a sideline ) he told me to use a damp ( not wet ) lint cloth and a tiny dot of normal washing up liquid.

i have tried this and it dose work, seem to work better than the 'off the shelf' products.

I keep it clean by looking at porn and licking the screen.

Other than that I use a soft damn cloth.

No problem :)

They are the only things that I would dare touch my LCD TV with to be honest. I know people who have used kitchen roll and other dusters and have scratched the plastic covers on their monitors/TV's so it will be £10 worth spending. I think there are 50 wipes for a tenner.

My CRT's monitor's antiglare coating was ruined when I accidentally used the wrong type of cleaner on it, so I know by experience!
