At what age do you find radio 1 way OTT and feel at home on radio 2. I am a TOG and proud. But then I am middle aged or maybe in my prime:)

As a thirty yr old (going on for 60 in the minds of some of my mates) I graduated to radio 4 when I was 23 ..... Far easier on the ear

Stopped listening to Radio 1 when I was about 18. Radio 4 and 5 for me (and Radio 7 for the drama re-runs).

I had the pleasure of radio1 at work until 25.

At 27 i was driving a lot so needed a radio station i would enjoy. Radio1 lasted about 3 miles and went to radio2.

Even listen to Chris Evans and i hated him on radio1!!

Loved Radio1 until I was about 18, then switched to Hallam for the car, but listen to R2 when I'm at home (through my tv).

I'm 20 :help:

Never hit Radio 2. Went from Galaxy to Radio 4/Classic FM.

I still listen to Radio1 mainly Chris Moyles plus I like to know what the nippers of today are up to. I used to listen to Radio2 from ages 23 - 27 and still do now and again. I also like Radio 5, up all night is great.

Anyone pop back to R1 for Dave Pearce's Dance Anthems?

I've been listening to R2 for the past 25 years - can't stand Radio1. Also when up North love tuning into REAL radio - really do miss that radio station.

At the grand old age of 36 I still listen to radio 1 - Chris Moyles makes me proper laugh out loud in the morning... I like comedy Daves voice... I even download the podcast.
If I'm off I like Jo Whiley and Zane Lowe is brilliant.. also like Chris Murray.
I also like Scott Mills going home from work but flick between him and Chris Evans as I usually prefer the music he plays but his banter bores me now.
However Saturday are a different story... Jonathan Ross and then Dermot at tea time are my main listens.... I usually have them on listen again when I'm working on a Sunday. Can't be doing with Sarah Cox wittering on about her kid.
I also usually get listen again for Janice Long as she plays some quality stuff in the middle of the night.
I recently discovered a show on radio sheffield... not sure what night it's on.. it might be Wednesdays but they play all unsigned bands and stuff - so maybe I'm getting REALLY old!

Moyles is great in the morning - you can see people laughing themselves silly in traffic jams! Similarly, Chappers and Mills have got something good going on.

But the music is dreary as anything, so blatantly (in the daytime anyway) chosen according to what the record companies happen to be pitching.

Finally turned Radio 1 off my radio-alarm about a year ago - Moyles was very effective at getting me out of bed and across the room to turn the blithering inanity and poor quality music off ASAP but too much stuff was getting smashed in my bedroom whenever I took a few seconds too long and he sent me into a maelstrom of impotent fury with his pointless existence.

I've dabbled in Radio 2 since my mid-20s but always found myself getting weary of the seemingly constant Simple Red and Billy Joel records they spew out. I'm sure nobody needs me to point out that Steve Wright is an irritatingly mawkish imbecile and probably the Antichrist too. It's always a special treat when they kick Chris Evans off Drivetime and get Stuart Maconie in to play some decent tracks that he actually seems to care about. And Mark Radcliffe is always splendid whatever station or timeslot he gets shunted to (I used to listen to him on Piccadilly in the early 80s when I was a wee nipper and he was barely much more than one himself).

These days it's all about 6Music and dirty great swathes of Radio 4.

I was bought up in a Radio 2 household in the 60s and 70s, although my dad used to listen to John Peel at night (did Radios 1 and 2 used to merge at night bvack then? Not sure....) so my musical tastes have always been eclectic.

From Frank Sinatra at one end of things to some obscure progressive Krautrock outfit who made their instruments from Lederhosen on the other.

When I used to drive around alot, I would listen to either Radio 2 or Radio 4 in the car. Radio 1 was just too inane.

Most of the time I listen to Radio 2 these days, though, is Bob Harris and some of the 'specialist' music shows they do.

I only listened to Radio 4 when it was on at my mother's house (all day) I usually listen to Talk Radio or Five Live when I go to bed

I've pretty much listened to Radio 2 since leaving school. I find Radio One to be awful. Really ghastly. What annoys me most about it (and most people on here probably won't even be bothered by this) is that they have an underground punk show (which is great), but get some yank to present it. Why not get someone who knows the British scene inside out?

I listen to Radio 1 and Radio 2 about equally, I'd say. I always had Mark and Lard's show on when they were on Radio 1, and after a while I got to really like Colin and Edith's programme too. But I only dip into that occasionally now that Colin's left :(

I really miss him, I must say - the other day I caught him standing in for Steve Wright for just the one afternoon, I think it was, and it was so lovely to hear great song after great song being played. A real, special treat!

Made me realise just how c**ppy most of the music is that normally gets played on daytime radio :(

PS I used to listen to Piccadilly Radio in the early 80s - I don't remember hearing Mark, but he's always seemed familiar to me on Radio 1, so perhaps I did hear him then. I do remember Mike Sweeney.... ooh you lookin at - better not be me! :hihi: Ahh, them wert days....

I was brought up on Radio 4, and would listen to that most of the time if the aerial on my car didn't need replacing so everything sounds all strange and muffled.

So instead I get to listen to CDs most of the time, and just put the radio on in the house. I'd say that it's split between Radio 1, Radio 2 and Radio 4 pretty equally these days.

Chris Moyles is good when cycling to work. J Ross is brilliant on a Saturday morning. Sarah Cox should be put out of her missery, she is awful. Edith Bowmen is just useless. Not entertaining in any way and not even a good presenter.

Back in those days Mark Radcliffe was a rather dour sounding and ever so serious young man which suited my rather dour and ever so serious early teenage self very well! It was Tuesday evenings IIRC.

Mike Sweeney was great fun - I usually only caught about 15 minutes of his show before I had to go back to skool after lunch. He had Pretty Vacant by the Sex Pistols as his theme tune and if you were really lucky he'd play it all the way through. Awww, Salford Jets made some top records...Walkin' round the town, lookin' at the squares... :)

I listen to Chris Moyles and Scott Mills on Radio 1.
But I love Jeremy Vine's show on Radio 2 (12-2pm)

And I'm only 21

They did indeed - a certain bloke I know is CONVINCED they wrote "Oo You Lookin At?" about him and his mate.

The Salford Jets were playing UMIST one Saturday night, and this bloke and his pal were hanging out of their kitchen window which overlooked the hall the Jets were playing at, to watch the show for free. Mike Sweeney noticed them, pointed at them, and shouted "Oo You Lookin at?" at them! :hihi:

People, I really need some advice! I still haven't found a radio station I really like here in the UK, so generally end up flicking between music stations, bored out of my skull coz i can't be bothered to switch, or just listen to XFM online.

But what I REALLY want is a decent newsy/current affairsy station/programme - I generally find Radio 4 very stuffy, and whenever I listen I seem to catch entire programmes that are just about one person/topic - I want a bit more variety than that! Yeah, they do have some very good slots, but what are their main newsy ones? Or are there other stations I should try?

Went off Radio 1 initially in the early 1990s when the director general decided it would be a dance music channel only. They also ditched the Golden Hour (which was still playing songs from the early 1960s up to the late 80s) and the final insult was when they announced they wouldn't be playing any Christmas songs over the festive period.

Having said all this, the station did seem to get back along the right lines c. 1999 with the likes of Zoe Ball (no jesting), Chris Evans and of course, Mark and Lard.

These days and with thanks to digital radio, I'm a real channel hopper. In the car it's mainly Radio 2 - especially if I'm out and about (their traffic and travel is excellent), Classic FM or even Rother FM.

In the office, it's usually like this: Radio 4 (or 5 or 2) till 9; Hallam, Classic Gold, rarely Real if playing a decent golden oldy year (if not, default to Radio 2); at 10 it's Heart. 11 - 2 it's Radio 2 again (sometimes Classic).

2pm it might be Hallam (for their second golden hour), Radio 2 or Classic FM. Drivetime is either Chris Evans or Jonathan Cowap (Radio York).

Saturdays sees a mixture of Radios 2, 3, 4, Talksport and occasionally Classic.

Finally, that two of Radio 2's finest presenters, Richard Allinson and Stuart Maconie are only used to fill-in for other presenters seems madness. These guys deserve their own maintime shows (although I know that in Maconie's case he is getting a show with Radcliffe).
