I know several people who have left the Beauchief mainly due to the crap wages and the management methods. The hotel is owned by a foreign hotel group.

Only ever been in there twice. Once for a xmas do and once to get information for a wedding reception. And both times I wasn't impressed. I don't know/can't remember why.
It was about three years ago now though.

I worked there in the summer of 1984 when a fitness suite was just being setup. It was hard work and very enjoyable and I wasn't too bothered about the low pay because it was a joy just to be there.

My only experience of the Beauchief was as a customer or potential customer.

The last encounter was when I asked if it was possible for me to see a room prior to booking to stay there the night before my wedding. For a special event, I wanted somewhere suitable!

The staff were rude and I was treated badly - as though my request was unreasonable. They had no time to show me a room so I suggested I could borrow a key for a minute. The reaction was as though I had requested something much more sinister!

The hotel is now not even on our accomodation list as they were so bad.

I would guess that attitude is a reflection of the management! Happy management, happy workforce and all that!

I've never worked at the Beauchief, but I've been for various meals and stuff over the years, I even had my wedding reception there, and never had any problems with it (although some pillock waiter did put a scalding hot plate in my hand the morning after...)

I guess I'm lucky, I just don't have that many problems with people.

We were married there two weeks ago. The wedding was fantastic despite The Beauchief's best efforts to spoil it. The food was awful (we're seeking a refund) because the chef had allegedly walked out the day before (why?). The staff were excellent and hard-working but appeared to be doing their best to paper over the cracks while squirming with embarrassment. One staff member repeatedly saved the day, but I witnessed him having to argue with his Line Manager who was trying to stop him from performing another heroic act (we'd forgotten a crucial CD and he volunteered to go to our house to get it). Overall, the impression was of a very undervalued and badly-treated workforce doing their best against the odds.

Understaffed and bad-tempered for our wedding reception but it's a lovely spot and cheap enough compared with competition. OK if you can endure a bit of Fawlty Towers treatment on your big day. Wouldn't recommend it though.

All these people saying how the Beauchief have rude staff, I find it all a bit surprising actually.

We had our wedding reception there in August 2003, the "wedding planner" bloke was as helpful as anything, all the staff on the day were lovely, the food was good, everyone was happy and pleasant and helpful. And I've never had anything different in all the years I've been going there - I think i must have been to 10 different events, birthday parties and weddings, even a post-funeral wake, - and each time I've never come away with anything less than a very positive impression.

It's so odd that so many other people have been treated so badly...

I do not find it ODD at all! the place is going down hill.

I have not worked there but someone i know has, they have been treated apaulingly, they r very short staffed and do not treat the LITTLE staff they have with any respect! some r doing 2-3 shifts at a time and some of them are ill and have rang in sick only to be told they MUST go in. A letter of complaint has been sent higher than the management at the beauchief only to be replied with "this is the way we now manage our hotel".

Im not saying the service that customers receive is bad or anything just interested in people that have been on the receiving end of the BAD management. Obviously they r so short staffed that the general public isnt getting the best service.

I cant believe they r getting away with what they r doing, why hasnt someone higher up within the company done something about the level of complaints which i know for a fact is a lot.
