Lady_Cat   10 #1 Posted April 12, 2007 Hellooo all!  Few wedding questions that you married lot might be able to answer for me please!  1) Do you have to be christened to get married in a church? 2) Do you have to believe in god and have a religious 'god' speech to get married in a church? 3) Do you have to pay for the church or do you just pay for the vicar and make a donation to the church? 4) Would anyone recommend getting married in a hotel/manor house etc? 5) Does anyone know anything about 'free wedding' by Sandals?  Explanation to question 5 is: Every morning i get the tram to work and the travel agents at West Street tram stop has an advert in the window by 'Sandals' with 'Free Weddings' on it! Does that mean you pay for the holiday etc and they provide a wedding? I think Sandals are very expensive from what i have seen.  Any other advice for a novice on Locations etc or any other info appreciated! Thanks. Ginger_Kitty   10 #6 Posted April 12, 2007 I'm afraid i can't answer the churchy questions for you, other than to say that i don't see the point of getting married in a church if you are not religiously inclined. but...  4) I personally got married at a medieval/17thC hall. It was beautiful, suited me and my hubby as we don't go to church (although we were both brought up methodist ) and it was a fabulous day! Ginger_Kitty   10 #8 Posted April 13, 2007 We looked into the older hall type places as i'm an archaeologist so i find these places as important as churches (its all about the building really!) Its worth a look round to see what is out there... esp if you are considering a church just for the prettyness... Our parents weren't in favour at first, but when we explained our reasoning (hypocritical getting married in a church if you don't go there!) they agreed and even helped us We also chose a place with limited space to prevent more guests than we initially wanted and one where we all got chucked out at 4.30 so we got time to ourselves and the low key day that we were after  Remember to figure out what you both want for YOUR(plural) day and look for somewhere that can do that.
