I have obtained an unwanted rabbit and wanted to buy a new cage to replace the cuurent one which is falling to pieces, does anyone know where I can buy a reasonably cheap hutch? Have looked at pet shop ones, but have found these to be overpriced.
Our rabbit also has very long claws which I don't think have been cut for a long time. We are unable to handle her yet as she is still not used to be handled. How would I go about having her claws cut? I think the vets would probably be expensive.
Thanks in advance.

I cant see the vets being that expensive. If you have taken on this rabbit then I would be prepared for vets fees as most pets need taking to the vets at some point. If she needs them cutting them maybe soooz can give you some advice. :)

Cutting the claws of a rabbit is easy... your problem is that you don't have a cooperative rabbit and the the claws are in need of major work not just an occasional trim.

From the sounds of this I would suggest you take the rabbit for a check up and nail trim at a vets.

It will be less stressful for the rabbit (and you!) and the vet will also check to see if the rabbit has any other problems.

I wouldn't expect a consultation and nail clip to cost too much, say £15

If you are willing to bring him over I can do them for free for you....but I recommend yo take him to the vets for a check up either way. The first check-up is usually free when you register with a new animal :)

we used to get our rabbits claws clipped at the vet and it costed us 5 pound.
he showed us how to do it ourselves which we did with wire cutters.
just dont cut below the red vein or it will bleed.
we also did his teeth as well

What did you do to his teeth?

Some people cut them with nail clippers which i advise strongly against as it can splinter the tooth meaning the whole tooth needs removing. It can also cause the tooth to fall out by putting pressure on the root.

The only way to file or burr a tooth is under anaesthetic by a qualified vet.
