View Full Version : Parking in Broomhill, discriminated against?
dragonsoup 04-11-2004, 17:57 Some time ago I called into a bank in Broomhill and returned to find that I had received a ticket for parking in a residents only area. Fair enough I would get fed up too if I lived there so I paid up and only had a little moan at the warden because I had been maybe 5 mins.
Some weekdays I take our car to my wife who works in one of the hospitals near Broomhill and walk home taking me through a small side road near to the Western Park hospital only to find it choked with cars on double yellow lines, across driveaways parked directly on corners and generally not giving a toss for anyone else. When I walked down there recently to meet my missus I had a word with the warden who was giving tickets elsewhere, about the situation and she told me 'its a prayer meeting so there is no point giving out tickets' its been reffered to the cheif constable etc.'
I can tell you that it was not the Christian Church place near to Western Park.
Maybe Abdul could enlighten us as to why these people are immune from the laws in this country. I may be wrong but Im pretty sure he has come across these people.

Why pick on Abdul, why not complain to the Chief Constable? You seem to have a valid complaint so I'd be interested in the response you get.
dragonsoup 04-11-2004, 18:05 Not picking on Abdul, asking a question as politely as possible. Question is refferred to Chief Constable as stated in my post.

Sorry, I thought because it was in quotes that you meant the warden said it had been referred. So what did you say in your complaint?
dragonsoup 04-11-2004, 18:22 apology accepted Max, no worries
Sorry dragon, I'm afraid I don't know why those people didn't receive parking tickets.
I have indeed come across these type of people. You may seen have the Fir Vale Masterplan thread, also under General Sheffield Chat, where I didwrote that this sort of antisocial parking was contributing to the congestion there.
I hope you are successful in getting a response from the Chief Constable, and I'm sure you'll be sharing it with us.
Many thanks
Abdul
dragonsoup 05-11-2004, 17:38 For a sensible reply, not trying to create any thread about race colour or creed, which some people will gladly try and give me a keyboard 'kicking' for. Stating a fact about what happened and why it annoyes me, the people could have been from Mars and I still would be angry.
There will be no integration whilst one set of people gets preferential treatment over the other and the retaliation that may arise and is indeed being talked about, will be horrendous.
If you can Abdul try and talk the ' Lefty' types from patronising people at every turn. You will not see them for dust when a problem arises. They will take a sickie.

I'd also like to complain about those other people who park on double yellows and get away with it. Every time I pass Scotland St I see half a dozen of them illegally parked. For those who don't know it, Scotland St is next to West Bar nick and the offending vehicles have "POLICE" written on them.
Do they think they're above the law or sumfink ?

Do they think they're above the law or sumfink ? done it..two weeks ago coming up the little road behind west bar nick, approached scotland street, couldnt see a thing for parked cars, unmarked ( personal use ) and police vans/cars,... pulled out slowly ,nearly got my front end ripped off.....lo and behold, traffic warden across the road checking out the cars parked up,pulled him up and pointed out the blatant police parking on double yellow lines, told him i was dropping my son of at the marine cadetts and if i came back in fifteen minutes i would be writing to the chief constable and the star if they were still parked up.15 minutes later, all moved,......picking up my son2/12 later all back in place again

Anyone have a telephone number to report these illegally parked cars ????
Ousetunes 06-11-2004, 10:49 As someone who travels through Broomhill up to four times each day, I have to agree with you that these people who park illegally are a real pain in the backside. Although I was initially against the plan for yet more double yellow lines, this time on Whitham Road, I think in the main it has helped the flow of traffic through this area. Alas, that is, but for inconsiderate plonkers who park on double yellow lines, and that includes the draymen delivering to (usually) The Nottingham House and White Van Man delivering to the shops in Broomhill itself.
Either these people are too ignorant and selfish to care, or they simply don't understand the Highway Code. Witness the amount of traffic that refuses to use bus lanes when they are not in operation. Every single morning, pre 8am, there are drivers using the outside lane on Western Bank and Crookes Valley Road, even though in the latter case there is nothing parked in the nearside (Bus) lane.
Take these people off the road and you'd reduce congestion by 70%.
And finally, I reckon anyone using a mobile phone whilst driving should be banned from driving on the spot. Got to go now, this laptop's getting in the way of my steering wheel......wooaaaaahhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!
