PTS for biting once ? That's awful. What happened ?
princess I'm not blaming your mum or sister at all - please be aware of that :) I'm just trying to help when I say:
Do you know why he bit? It's very important to know what made him bite before you go ahead and get another dog. If it was a completely unprovoked attack it may have been medical/neurological - in which case he should have been tested for any medical or neurological conditions but if it was provoked in any way please think very carefully about what it was that made him bite before knowing what sort of dog would best suit them this time.
I've only ever heard of one dog being put to sleep for biting once - and he'd done some real damage. I hope whoever he bit isn't seriously hurt :(
Please do think seriously though about which dog would be more suitable for you next time. What sort of dog are you looking at rehoming? What do your mum and sister want from a dog?
We walked a dog which bit once and police made the owners have the dog put to sleep, it seems to depend on wether the dog may bite again and what damage its already done.
dangerous dogs act 1991(section 3) try looking at this on http://www.wandsworth.gov.uk/home/environmentandtransport/dogs/dogslaw.htm#dangerous
I am sorry for your loss and hope you get another dog who will fit into your family .
Sorry to hear this sad story:(
I'm really surprised too. You must be very upset. Was it your choice or the authorities to PTS?
Please tell us what happened so we can best advise
I agree with Lotti - until we know why he bit, and can establish that it wasn't a handling or training issue that could arise with a second dog (eg if a child had been allowed to hurt the dog) we really can't offer to help put another dog in the same situation

Sound comment from you both. I respect your views on dogs, and I agree another dog in this situation is not a good idea.

Thanks everyone, my mum is pretty upset about it, she say's she not gonna get another dog now, because she cant go through the same thing again.
The bloke had 3 stiches i his arm and very badly brusied, i think thatas why he was PTS,
The bloke was only bending down to get his football back which the dog had got.

That reason makes it worse that the dog was PTS. It sounds like he attacked as he possesive over a toy. A dog can be trained not to do this. I cant believe they put it to sleep for that!

Takara is currently being trained out of this, she is quite possessive and although she'll let me take food out of her mouth, she gets defensive when under the table.
However - when she has snapped, she's only ever mouthed and a dog that bites this badly has obviously never been taught bite inhibition which means it is a danger to have around.
I'm not saying it should've been put to sleep but at the same time I'm not saying it was entirely the wrong thing to and I'm not about to judge a family who were at a loss to what to do when there are so many people out there with aggressive dogs regularly attacking other dogs/people. :(
But I just think the whole scenario's very sad :(
Princess perhaps if your mum doesn't want another it's for the best, at least until she knows a bit more about preventing this from happening again.
