View Full Version : Does ebay work
I know we have had a similar thread, but I would like to know if ebay works. We have had numerous long & exhaustive comments from some one called Golden fleece who is trying to sell some book or something.
Can I have some short comments on if they did & their selling experiences.
I have tride quite a few times & to my amazement I am still in a day time job. Not sold a thing yes nothing. Not a sausage
I have sold about 50 things, clothes, books, videos, games, trainers, all with no trouble.
Yodameister 04-11-2004, 12:17 Ebay does not work by magic, and you are unlikely to make a living from it unless you approach it as professionally as if you were running a business.

Fantomas 04-11-2004, 12:19 I've bought and sold about 100 bits and bobs, all with no problems, and I've got friends who've sold hundreds of things.
It's easy to do and you can make some money at it quite easily, but it's surprising how much time putting together the listing, sorting the admin and packing and sending stuff takes!
Tim, it depends entirely on these factors:-
What are you selling?
Is your starting price too high?
Is your reserve price (if any) too high?
Have you put a good picture of the item on your listing? It's amazing how much more you can get for an item with a good photo of it.
Is it listed in the correct category?
Are your spellings correct?
Most importantly - have you got any positive feedback? If not, it's worth purchasing a coupe of items and paying promptly before trying to sell your own items. There are loads of new ebayers that are just ripping people off. You need to prove that you aren't going to do that by gaining good feedback.
Other than that, I don't know why you're struggling.
Hope this helps.
I have sold hundreds of items, and have not got 1 single negative feedback. I sell stuff a lot more easily now I've got a good reputation.
ive sold loads of cd's and bought 2 cars and a couple of books.....never had any probs
mr.blaze 04-11-2004, 13:12 My Dad recently had his account Hijacked by someone but we got that all sorted out  Numbskull had a password that was in the Dictionary.
Done a fair amount of buying and selling - new stuff and old stuff, no problems.
A nice way for me to earn some beer money.

Never tried to sell any new stuff but it's great for selling second hand things. Sold lots of playstation one games which we were about to throw out since we thought they would be worthless and made quite a lot. Had a really low starting bid (99p) and no reserve + positive feedback from people we'd previously bought from which I think helps. A friend told me last night she'd started to make small amounts by buying things when they are 3 for 2 or half price in supermarkets etc and then reselling them for profit! Sounds good if you can get the right product and check out your market beforehand!
Beware.. of emails saying.. please click on this link to confirm your ebay details... it takes you to a site which looks exactly like the ebay signing in page but is actually a con - people trying to get your ID to use!
I buy and sell regularly on eBay, mostly hassle free. But...I do have a non paying waste of space at the minute!!
I've been really pleased with all the stuff I've bought too.
I'll never be one of the so-called eBay millionaires cos as soon as I sell something and get money in my Paypal account I spend it!!
Where do you get the things to sell from ?
Or do you buy and then sell again on E bay ?
Hi coggy,
Woohoo! My 900th posting!
Some of what I sell is what I've bought elsewhere, but other items are eBooks and software that I write myself and have copyright on.
Joe
Cheers Joe
Well done on 900 mate
So is it really possible to earn a living buying and selling on e-bay ??
Coggy
Hi coggy,
I couldn't make a living from it the way I do it, though I could probably earn more than I do if I got my act together and invested in 'stock', so to say.
There are people who can obviously rake it in on eBay, but I'm not one of them at the moment!
I regard it as a way of getting some money to pay for my hobbies and occasionally topping up teh hosuekeeping. It's also a way of getting shut of odds and sods I find around the place, but as a very small fish I can't ever see myself quitting the day job for a life as an ebay trader!
