View Full Version : Fox Hagg/Redmires walk - Sunday April 15th.

A circular walk around Fox Hagg, Wyming Brook, Headstone and Redmires is this week's Sunday walk - open to existing members of the walking group and anyone who cares to join us.Suggest meeting near the Sportsman's pub on Redmires Road at 11 am.
Not a good idea to park in the car park at the Sportsman's (after the last er,um... episode there).Plenty of parking along the side of the road, though.
Public transport users - the 51 takes you to the Lodge Moor terminus, and the walk begins on the opposite side of the road about 50 yards up from the bus stop.Of course anyone who can provide a lift to members - Please sort that out via PM.
This walk should take about 4 hours, depending on how many times we stop for tea/coffee/sticky buns/a general gawp at the scenery and wildlife/a chat.
The carvery at the Sportsman's is highly recommended - but by all means bring some sandwiches,if you'd prefer to do that.
As per usual - if Albert and Nooka are coming along - the offer of a lift is here.
Have I missed out any details? Let me know if I have - or chip in,yourself.
Roll up,roll up.:)

Would if I could, but seeing as I`m on my jollies I`ll be giving this one a miss :( but I`ll be with you in spirit!
Will be thinking about you all while I`m away and I`ll be lurking in the recesses and popping out to bite your bums when you`re not looking!
Have fun, and I`ll see you all @ 26th April

Can I just say, that the fact that Feargal and I are on holiday is a mere coincedence.

I've just phoned the pub (The Sportsman's on Redmires Road - hi,Jill and Mike... ) and there MAY be some food left at 3o'clock,Karen.(The walk will probably take about 4 hours).
Sticky buns sounds like a FINE idea! Thanks,Karen.

(Of course,if anyone would like to bring along a barbecue thingy and some sausages and beefurgers - I'm sure we can find a place to do some serious al fresco dining...).

JUST KIDDING!!!:hihi:

Not fit lass!!
After I got home, I sat down and had a cup of tea. Then took the dogs a walk over to Grindleford Station. I was just about half way across the Totley Moors coming back when a car bumped into the side of my house and woke me up!! So I thought I'd come onto the forum to let everyone know, that because I've lent someone my picture down-loader, it will be tomorrow by the time I've downloaded the pictures of the walk for (Grimmson?) to have.
I hope next Thursday evenings walk through Eccelsall Woods after meeting at Dore Railway Station at 18.00 hrs (6.00 pm) goes well.

Wish I was a tad warm.
You don`t know how lucky you are, can`t get my breath complaining about hot April weather, it`s not got above 5c all day today where I am:(
Not to mention had man-flu for 3 days, and severe foodpoisoning effects (no exact details needed) all night, so all-in-all not a happy holiday bunny :(
Glad you all enjoyed yourselves though, were you really all skinny-dipping, or was that wishful thinking on Taxmans part?

These evening walks sound interesting and I may be tempted to join you if Karen19 will let me. She probably thinks she spends enough time with me already! The bluebells are just starting to come up in the woods I think, seen some out at Calke Abbey today anyway. What we on on Thursday Karen?

That was a fantastic walk and a beautiful warm sunny day. I was feeling well "cream crackered" when I got home. Didn't even make it to my bed when I got home just fell asleep on the settee – ouch my poor shoulder!
Thanks Albert for trusting me with your camera – hope some of the shots came out – couldn’t really see much on the LCD with all the bright sunshine. Looking forward to many more enjoyable walks like this.

Have received pics from Albert and put them on my site - go to the Fox Hagg section of walks gallery on www.RFStock.co.uk and look for the pics with Alberts name next to them - looks like weather was a lot nicer than the last walk we attempted there

Albert has sent me some more photos from a walk he did yesterday - "they are of The Headstone on Headstone Bank, grid ref: 256 874. While I was taking them I came across a small square trough which may, or may not, have ancient religious connections."

Sounds Spooky :suspect:

I've given Alberts pics a seperate folder - see the Fox Hagg section with his name against them in walking gallery on www.RFStock.co.uk

Think we saw the plaque about Brenda before on a previous walk, but no-one knew her story. Maybe someone out there does ?
