I have just aquired a rabbit from someone who didn't want her any more. We have placed her hutch outside, but all night she was banging on the floor of the hutch with her paws keeping us awake all night. Does anyone now if this is normal behaviour, and can we stop her doing it?

Was she an indoor rabbit before?
I don't know anything about rabbits but there are plenty on here who do and I'm sure they'll be along soon!

There are a number or reasons why she might be doing this
a) Its spring - The scent of bunny love happening everywhere is in the air.
b) She's been moved from her original home - She might be frightened
c) She may be bored because she's got nothing to do.

So basically, buy her toys to play with (natural wooden chews etc), get her spayed (rabbit savvy vet, if they say to starve her beforehand do NOT take her to that vet) and get her a friend after she's been spayed - preferable a male whose no longer intact and is relatively the same size and age.

Rabbits do not vomit so they can eat right up to the point of going in for surgery... indeed they should eat, as longer they do not eat greater the chance that the gut will slow and the vet will have difficulty getting the rabbit to start eating after the op.

She just needs time to adjust to her new home. She will settle once spayed and with time and understanding.

I think she is frightened, wild rabbits do this to alert others to danger .. could be a fox about.

Mines like that for the first week after she goes out for the summer she soon calms down when she gets comfy for the summer again. Also I would like to know if anyone has a run they dont need anymore.
