haved been a fan of the mangla for years but have had 1 poor one then a below ave, in a row and observed a 20 % price rise i havent been for 14 months.

I may give this a try, as now i no longer have a fave that end of town


needs to be as cheap and as good as momtaz, or a few quid per dish cheaper than cafe guru to tempt me seriously though!

I went to the Chaman last night. It has only been open since Monday apparently but it was pretty busy. The guy serving was friendly and efficient but rushed off his feet. The menu was very Gulshan-like, including the old favourite, payee. I just went for items off the grill, seekh kebab and chicken tikka, which were very nicely spiced and made with good quality meat. My companion had a roasting-hot chicken biryani that he tucked away rapidly. With a jug of mango lassi, the bill was just under £20, so it was pretty good value. It is not the best curry I have ever had (south indian thali on Belgrave Gate, Leicester) nor even the best ever in Sheffield (Seven Spices, West Bar, in its heyday, when the mighty Sharma prepared his special sauces to go with the slow-cooked whole lamb leg/salmon/chicken dishes) but it was good value, quite authentic tasting food and I will be going back for more.

I think the Wicker 'Curry Mile' is shaping up nicely.

We ate here last night ... the food was really really nice but the service was a bit slow.... waited nearly an hour for the food.

No it wouldn't, Cafe Guru is overpriced and tasteless. If you want to spend that amount of money and can put up with her pushyness, Nirmal's is by far the best.

i work at the pharmacy next door and we ALL got a free invite last saturday it really was fab! no booze but you can take yourown and they dont charge to open it !!!

this is the first time I've ever posted anything.... ooohhhh!! I just can't keep quiet any longer. Why has no-one mentioned Thrill-Of-The-Grill We-Lead-Others-Follow Kebabish The Great in their lists of favourite curries down that end of town. I never go anywhere else.

Tell us why it is so good and you may tempt us to go there as well. 3/5 for hygiene is not a bad start, so what is the food/service/decor etc like?

I was also a great advocate for the Mangla, ever since it started further down Spital Hill with a couple of formica tables years ago (anyone remember the pictures on the wall - forest scenes with cut-out pics of motorbikes & birds stuck on?). Always a great atmosphere as you'd be sharing tables with folk who'd travelled from - ooh as far as Mansfield even. But after three disapointing curries, drowning in oil, poor service and just too expensive I need a new place to eat.

The Mangla lost it a while ago in my opinion, Gulshan is good or for takeaways Cafe Masala.

Does the chaman do takeaway? Is there a website/online menu?
