OK, so the first race in Australia could have been a flash-in-the-pan jobbie, but to trick Massa into a mistake, then defend Kimi and get feastest lap isn't. The most impressive race I have seen in a long time; that kind of defensive driving you'd expect to see from Alonso or Schumi but never from a rookie in his second race.

I hope this continues and we see Lewis win at Silverstone this year and win the championship in a couple of years. At last we've got someone to cheer about :D

Here, here

He is our new great hope, Jenson never had the car under him to fulfil his potential, Hamilton has, roll on Bahrain :D

How he is coping with the pressure is good for someone so early in his career.

However having a good reliable car also helps.

We'll never know what would happen if Jenson and Lewis changed cars. Would Jenson be any better in the current McLaren?

Some drivers do get good cars and don't do well, but some drivers never get the chance in a really top car.

I've been amazed by how well Lewis has driven too. It's great to have a British front runner to cheer on. I was holding my breath for the last few laps of the Malaysian GP hoping Lewis could hold off Kimi!

Let's hope he can keep it up!

...but to trick Massa into a mistake...

I don't see how he 'tricked' him... rather Massa just over-egged it...

But regardless, Lewis seems very likely to be champion in the future... maybe by the end of the year!! :D

Coulthard was very impressive today.

Lets face it though, there isn't a lot of skill involved in F1 these days what with all the driver aids, an experienced train driver could probably get a decent lap if he had the bottle. :hihi:

Hamilton has impressed so far but lets not forget he is in probably the best car, you only have to look at Jacque Villeneuve and Michael Schumacher's careers to see how important the car is to a drivers success.

One thing is for sure though, it makes F1 more interesting having a Brit up there challenging for once.

Lewis Hamilton - Our brightest hope in Formula One, I believe and may move me to go and watch a Grand Prix live, someone to cheer for at last, my only hero being the late, great Ayrton Senna.

Anyone else on here who watches and enjoys motor racing?

It's not as bad as it was in the very late 80's to early 90's. When Mansell won the title it was almost computer driven.

Mind you, as a Minardi (and therefore Toro Rosso by default) fan, I'll always be jealous.

I'm not amazed, but he is good. I think we need to remember though he has been racing for a long time & Dennis is his Godfather so he has been at this game almost all his life.
Taking nothing away from him though he is a good guy & I hope he continues to do well. I'm looking forward to Silverstone this year, it would be great if he wins there, he won the GP2's last year when we were there & the crowd reaction was amazing. I think there will be a lot of Hamilton supporters !

He is a fantastic talent, but he will have dips in form. Just look at what happened to Rosberg and Kubica last season - they both showed fantastic pace at times but weren't consistent over the season.

According to the ITV-F1 website 54% of people answering their survey reckon he'll be champion this year. I think they need a dose of reality! I do expect him to be crowned world champion at some point in his career, but I'd be very surprised if it was this year. I think a realistic position at the end of the season with the car he's got under him would be 3rd or 4th (which is still ******* impressive!).

If he stays consistent with 2nds and 3rds, while the other 3 main contenders fight over the wins then he might end up as champion this year! :D

Very, very expensive. We used to go for the qualifying sessions, which also had F3 and/or F3000, good class motorbike racing, and junior racing a few years ago, and had a good Saturday's motorsport for about £10. As I say though, that was a few (15) years ago.

Now, you're looking at tickets which start at £10 per day during testing (£15 for all three days), then when it starts in earnest on the Friday, £99 (£50 for kids) for a 'roving seat' for three days, but nowhere near Copse or Luffield Terraces.

Prices thingy (http://www.silverstone.co.uk/html/ra_f1spectator.php)

For a family, you can go abroad for less.

It's bloody good fun though!!!!

It's possible to take a holiday at one of the venues, Monaco or Monza, and have the ticket included, even so for one Grand Prix perhaps in a lifetime, a few hundred isn't much

Its all about the car, he is in a good reliable car, hence why he is doing well, at the moment he isnt anywhere near the pace of Massa in the Ferarri, look at the last race to see that.

Yes he is doing well, am I amazed = no, he has a good car.

Although he is leading the championship, I dont think he will win it, I cannot see anyone stopping Massa from winning it.

If it's all about the car that could be said of all Grand Prix winners, there is also the driving technique, personal skill, and the input of the mechanics, before the race and at the pit stops, the judgement re tyre changes, but most of all the resiliance, determination, stamina and fitness of the driver, go Lewis go
