do you agree that this it what is needed in sheffield?
A team in the UK are planning a freshwater aquarium exhibit which will be four times bigger than Cornwall's Eden Project.
If everything goes to plan, Nirah, the National Institute for Research into Aquatic Habitats, will provide Britain's freshwater biologists with a unique research facility, as well as providing what could be one of the UK's biggest visitor attractions.
The scientists will be able to study, breed and examine the DNA of the organisms that live within a massive indoor habitat and we'll be able to go along and look at the amazing fish being displayed in aquariums, lakes and rivers much like they'd be found in in nature.
Around it will be a landscaped parkland of 20 acres which will include:
* outdoor temperate freshwater habitats.
* four acres of formal water gardens
* the largest water fountain in the world set in an area the size of Trafalgar Square

It looks like they have already applied for planning permission in Bedfordshire. What area of Sheffiled has 20 acres of lakes for redevelopment?

It's an amazing site, I used to live a mile down the road and went running around there loads of times. They have so many different types of wild water fowl there and is a real asset to the area.
If you ever get a chance to go down there then I highly recommend it

How about relocating it at Meadowhell uups I mean Meadowhall, get rid of the eco unfriendly place and replace it with some attraction that is eco friendly. With the river and canel near by a water park sounds very attractive but I only dream. The reality is there's no where big enough in Sheffield to build a place of that size and magnitude; there's too many hills. Sheffield should be proud of the attractions that it already has, all the wonderful parks, the beautiful coutryside that surrounds the city to name but two.

An aquarium 4 times bigger than the Eden project? Some fish tank that!Have you ever seen the Eden project?
It will never happen in Sheffield.This council can't even fill small holes in the road.

If birmingham can have The National SEA LIFE centre why can't sheffield have a public aquarium ? it could be built in the winter gardens like this one

They could fill 'em with fish! Some of them are so huge, they'd probably house whales quite happily. ;)
