when i was a lad the team of the moment was bob paisley's Liverpool, and as young lads do, i 'supported' them (cos they were the best!). i'm not a huge follower of football now, but am pleased to see the 'pool doing well in europe.

so do you all support the teams that are local to you? (whether you grew up in sheffield, manchester, meseryside, etc.), or do you support teams from further afield? if so, why? and if you do support a local team. do you have 'another' team who you have a soft spot for?

Hereford United, East Stirling and Cowdenbeath.

I have no idea why.

I used to support Tottenham as a kid. Gary Mabbutt was my hero as he was diabetic, it really made me realise that I couldn't let my illness ever stop me from doing anything. His inspiration really gave me a kick in the right direction so I supported the team he captained.

I only started supporting the owls as it upset my Dad that I didn't, they are my team now and forever though.

Neither Hereford nor Cowdenbeath ever appeared in any of them ............ not that I collected them .............. :hihi:

East Stirling did in one, Football '82. The only one that had the old Third Division in it (club crest and team picture only). We were in Division 4.

My first possible attempt at "United" swapsies scuppered by Mr Givens.

All this while living in South London too.

For some reason, the Swansea City squad appeared on the pitch in Football '83 wearing no boots.

They were relegated.

The reserve Wolves keeper Gary Bradshaw's face took up the whole of his 'window' in Football '82. He looked like Roger Daltrey after BabyBio.

I completed most of them; wish I'd still got them now.

I used to look out for Meadowbank Thistles results in the Scottish league.

For a long time they seemed to be the worst team in the league and hardly won a game.

But after a while they did get better and eventually got promoted to the Premier League, only to be denied their place in the league.

They then fell away before changing their name to Livingston.

Rather surreal to see another Hereford fan on here (though I've no idea whether you go to games or just look for the results in the Green Un).

I was brought up as a Wednesday fan, but got disillusioned around the mid 1980s - the club simply got too successful and I grew to hate the big soulless grounds, the fences, the hooliganism, the being treated like *** by the police. One day I felt like going to a lower league game, picked Mansfield vs Hereford at random, went in the away end and had a great time. That was March 1985 - 22 years later, I'm still going and generally manage 10-15 games a season.

My sons support Liverpool which is quite odd seeing as we live within a stones throw of the Owls training ground

As well as being an Owls fan I now follow my OH's team Schalke 04 (http://www.schalke04.de/club.html). They do have the great fortune to play in blue aswell :D Top of the League at the moment! Fantastic stadium, loyal fans and hoping that this year their dream will be realised by winning the title for the first time in their history.

I also have a soft spot for Alemania Aachen aswell which is not far from us. Small club + loyal fans too.

I support Liverpool simply because my dad is from Liverpool and my mum is from Widnes so they are the team I was brought up with, there has never been a doubt in my mind as to what team I would support. if I was to support a local team my options would be burnley, bury or accrington stanley as I live smack bang in the middle of them all :hihi:

I support Manchester United as my older brother, cousins and a few of my Uncles did and got me into them as a little kid and of course once you've settled on a team no switching is allowed.

once you've settled on a team no switching is allowed.

The rules have changed; switching is permitted if you support one of the top 4 in the Premiership - if your team doesn't win anything for more than 2 seasons, you can switch to any other team, so long as it's Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea or ManYoo. Full details at www.ugottaswitch.com......

I'm French and have lived in Sheffield for almost 3 years. I'm a PSG fan, but here I support Sheffield Utd and Liverpool.

I'm a Blade first and foremost, but for some reason when I was younger, I always looked for the Bulls results. I've been down to Edgar Street umpteen times, but fewer in recent years. I always make a point of seeing the lads round these parts when they play.

I can still honestly say I have no idea why I follow Hereford, but I do, and that's all that matters to me. You're absolutely right to, the lower divisions and leagues have a much better atmosphere.

In the dim, dark days when I used to live in Nodnol, I used to watch quite a lot of non-league football (Dulwich Hamlet, Fisher Athletic; Whistable Town when we were on holiday), if I wasn't playing rugby, or watching the Blades.

I'm a Liverpool fan but I've got a soft spot for the Blades. I used to like watching them in the 2002/2003 season when they made the play-off final and lost to Wolves. I've been to see them a few times at Bramall Lane and now I live just a few streets away from the ground.

If I'm at home on a matchday I'll often open my front door right before kickoff to hear "Annie's Song", and if the Blades are playing live on Sky I'll mute the TV and open the front door when they score to hear the cheers.

Go to a local game, I'm a blade and have been hooked since I went to my first game at 5. I've had a season ticket since then. No matter which game you go to locally you will enjoy more and will mean more to you than watching that lot on telly.

Always liked watching Barcelona.

Keep an eye out for Rotherham too. I've liked watching Chelsea over the last few years too, mainly because they've had managers who can give a brilliant press conference (Mourinho and Ranieri).

I would slightly lean towards being a Liverpool supporter if any; due to the first FA Cup final I saw was Liverpool / Arsenal 1971. When I saw Steve Heighway score....I was sold, then changed sides when Charlie George scored and promptly layed on his back....

I went junior school, and fell for a girl whose surname was Stenton. When I was reading the sunday paper I thought I saw her name but it was Stenhousemuir so I supported them and have done ever since. I always check their scores and league position. One day they will make it to the Scots Premier League and Stenhousmuir and Ms Stenton (now married) will reign supreme....
