Yes, we do, but we have so many different types of Margerines & butters over here now. I always buy Low Fat Flora with Omega 3 plus. Its the "good" fat, but at holiday times ,always buy half a pound of Lurpak butter for a treat.

I never use butter. I don't buy it unless I'm baking something (and that's a rarity). I use Flora and Olivio (or whatever it's called these days). I generally buy the supermarkets' own-brand Flora and Olivio equivalents though as they're cheaper and taste the same.

You can get Lurpak Spreadable now Mel. It spreads straight from the fridge.

I'm afraid that despite my GP's advice I love my butter. :)

The closest I come to margerine is the 'spreadable' butters that almost spread when they come out of the fridge. :)

Is it unpopular in the states now Poppins?

I like Flora I am afraid but if I buy scones at the same time as a shop, I like butter so will buy butter. I never get through a tub though as I rarely eat bread so even though I buy the smallest one, i always end up throwing out as it's past the best before date.

Those spreads, like Flora, I don't consider to be "real" margarine.

Margarine comes in a ½lb (or whatever the metric equivalent is) block, is as hard as butter when it comes out of the fridge, and is used in baking cakes and making pastry.

Asda still sell it.

I think it's probably more popular than ever given the health benefits compared to butter. And also considering the amount of fridge space dedicated to it in the supermarkets.

Personally I use it mainly on toast or in sandwiches, and my brand of choice is flora pro active (the one with plant sterols that is supposed to lower your bad cholesterol levels).

Yep I cannot stand butter and in the past two years, noone in my house has eaten it. I'd imagine there are a *lot* more people eating butter than margerine...

I had to give up sugar -- hated all the artificial sweeteners --now I like coffee (DC) without.
I had to give up butter -- tried various Floras etc -- now put the marmalade straight on the toast

I only do butter. I lick ( sorry like) salty tastes only. :)

We use dairy free soya spread. It's really nice and a bit healthier than butter but I do love real butter as a treat now and then.

Is this post a bet or weird experiment? One bloke says to the other "I tell you, you can start a topic about anything on a forum and people will reply. For example, margerine" !!!

Margarine, does anyone still use it, and what for ?

My son, who has a science degree, advised me that margarine is just a chemical cocktail and in it's natural state is actually black. It is given colour to make is look palatable. So - no marg for me, I'll stick to my yummy Lurpak and try to use it sparingly, not always successful though.

I only have real butter (in moderation), margarine is just a tub of reclaimed grease and chemicals which will probably turn out to give you cancer.

I always buy Low Fat Flora with Omega 3 plus.

If it's low fat what's used instead?
Water!
Try melting some in a container (spoon) and see how much there is in it.
Another food industry scam, like water in chickens.
Water at a fat price.
Sorry about the pun:D

I don't know how people survived before we discovered Omega 3, it's added to bloodys everything these days, I hope it doesn't turn out to cause some kind of disease in the future.
