Ok, so in the good old days it was a few pints in the Hallamshire (what have they done to that place - it can't be an improvement) or the Hornblower (now vanished under West One), followed by a short stroll down the road to the Limit (I think it was where the Westpoint building is). Obviously these memories make me an old git, but where is there to go now (I was last in the Washington about a year ago but am told that it is starting to lose its 'charm' too)? I'm coming back in September (place on course sorted, room sorted, just need a part time job now) and I really don't think I can face a 'trendy wine bar' full of teenagers (although I probably would be turned away for being too old and wearing trainers).
:o
Depends on where you live/drink. I can recommend the Princess Royal on Slinn Street as the best pub in Sheffield. Or the Red Deer off West Street, or The Royal Hotel on Walkley Street. All traditional local pubs with good beer and the decor is as it has been since the war (with maybe a lick of paint every now and then).

I am writing this reply right on the very site of the Limit nightclub.
It was opposite were the City Hall tram stop is now.

The Hallamshire... used to be a cracking place, but look at it now :-(
Good choice on moving back to Sheffield BTW! What you studying?

I'll be studying History (I currently work in IT and am bored ****less of it!)
Cheers Maxt - I'll check out those pubs!
Last time in Sheffield I worked in the Old Queens Head - now that was pretty rough - has it fell down yet?

..and the advantage that like most Walkley pubs they have Ronnie Barker opening times! (Open All hours) :)
The Bath hotel (just behind the x-glossop road baths) is a decent boozer too.

The Classic Rock Bar, at the bottom of Ecclesall Rd, near Safeway hosts the DJs that used to play at the Limit, Rebels, Wap, etc. The pub's age group is a bit older than the teenage pub population. I think you'd like it in there.

and don't forget the dog & partridge on trippet lane for the trad pub feel. There's a good pint in the rutland. shame about the washington.
Shame about the Dog and Partridge down Attercliffe yeah, not that I ever went in, but they had female STRIPPERS apparently, and no I don't mean paint strippers ;)
