free wheelchair hire, all we ask is 2 proofs of ID, and a £20 returnable deposit. If you can afford it, a donation towards the charity's work is appreciated, please.
we are, unfortunately, closed for the bank holiday, till Tuesday, but give us a ring, asap, and we can sort you out with a chariot.
Yellowrose 07-04-2007, 17:01 PT is this just for hire in Sheffield City Centre? I could do with something when we go out for the day, but dont feel ready yet to buy a mobility scooter. (I cant walk very far).
You can also get free wheelchair or power scooter loans at Meadowhell, so you can have a go at running down some of the idiots that go there.
And if you need the loan of a wheelchair for a few weeks, the Red Cross will supply one for free, though they want a deposit.

No problem, Yellowrose, no pressure to buy,
what we are here for, is to assist anyone who has difficulty accessing shops and services in the city.
BUT!
you can hire to use in the city centre (manual wheelchairs or mobility scootas) but you can also hire to use at home.
Don't worry, if you feel a bit nervous, as we will give you a tutorial (it's mandatory on our own health and safety rules) so that we are confident that you are confident using the scootas or handling the wheelchair.
the best thing to do if you are phoning to make a booking is to tell them you've been told to tell then to mark it down that you are a first time user, and we can book a bit extra time to go through it all.
You'll be away before you know it, enjoying the freedom of the city centre.

"mad"owhall's hire is purely for use within the meadowhall centre itself; you cannot take them away, as you can with ours.
I forgot to post opening times:-
we open from 0930 to 1530 Monday to Saturday (except bank holidays)
do the red cross still do loans? I thought that had stopped... their loan service, etc, is certainly not at Clarkegrove road any more. (*puzzled)
edit, just looked at the site... they only do 4 week hire
we do 6-8 week hire with option to extend longer if needed
(FURTHER EDIT:- they don't say what amount they are asking for their deposit...)
i know about the ones at meadowahall, i borrowed one last week. i need one to use for a couple of weeks until i get back on my feet, ive got to rest my foot completely to do that.
elettertome 27-06-2012, 11:25 Thanks to everyone for this post as I was able to hire a wheelchair for my mother.
