I think sheffield city counsil are rubish.

I have just bought an house and next door is owned by the counsil and nobody are living there. The garden is overgrown and there is a fox living in it. It looks a right state and is making my house look crap.

I phoned counsil and they are not going to do anything about it. They are going to let it grow and grow!
They said tey are going to agree when they have new tenents that they would do it. Whenthe new tenents see it they aren't going to want to touch it!

What the hell do we pay counsil tax for when they do sod all????
Sheffield roads are crap, big pot holes everywhere.
Where does our money go to?????

I think the sheffield city counsil are S**T. What do you lot think about them??

The Sheffield City CounCil are good and bad.
As are most councils. But I'm not happy at their raising council tax above the rate if inflation policy!

I'd say 70% Bad
29% OK
1% Good!

I have to say I've had more negative experiences with the council than positive.

I live in a high rise block of flats which are just lovely, wonderful views and lots of lovely people.

The strange thing is the council have some crazy policy of dumping heroin addicts on us. This has led to an increase in anti social behaviour, vandalsim and burglary.

Last Thursday I had to sit outside my flat in my car for 25 minutes because I was too scared to go to the front door. There were 2 heroin addicts screaming at the intercom, obviously they were trying to get into the flats. I later found out that they were calling random people threatening them to let them in. Most of the people in these flats are elderly.

There are 6 flats on each landing and my landing used to be lovely. It was always kept nice and clean as we all took it in turns to tidy it up. All the neighbours got along. Once again the council decided to ruin things by placing 2 heroin addicts in one of the flats which had recently become empty due to the death of a sadly missed elderly gentleman.

Things have now gone from being nice and peaceful to noisy and frightening.

Heroin addicts bang on this flat door at all times of the day and night, the landing is always filthy because the heroin addicts and their "friends" stub ciggies out on the carpet, throw rubbish everywhere and generally just have no respect or regard for anyone else.

They also keep an alsation dog in the flat, which barks all the time, pees in the lift and on the landing. According to my tenancy agreement it is illegal to keep a dog in the flat.

I have written to the council on numerous occasions. They have done nothing. Myself along with my neighbours are looking to move out. It's a real shame as we all love it here but we just can't put up with these pieces of scum destroying our homes.

I think the council will only be happy when they have totally ruined the area with their obsurd policy of forcing lowlifes onto decent hardworking people.

Sorry for the rant, I'm just extremely annoyed with the whole situation.

Hi steelblade!

Have you tried writing to your local councillor as opposed to council officers? I used to work at the council and once a councillor supports your case you get a lot more help from the officers!!!!

Also try ringing Action Desk at the Star, again this often shakes the council into action.Good luck!

Hi Blondee.

There is a woman who is like the tennants representative and she has tried all sorts to get things sorted out.

She has written and appeared, along with other tennants, in the star many times.

The council just don't seem to want to do anything.

A few months ago there was talk of us having a security guard to keep the heroin addicts and kids away from the flats but nothing came of it.

The council installed cameras in the foyer but the seating area and walls in this area are vandalised regularly which leads me to believe that the cameras are just dummies, although the council deny this.

About 5-6 years ago there was this same problem and the council acted and evicted all the heroin addicts and anti social scum, then for some reason just as things were getting back to normal they decided to bring them back!!!

The old people used to sit in the foyer and play games, bingo mainly, they would have a drink and a sing song, you know white cliffs of dover and all that :D now they are too afraid to come downstairs after about 6pm. It's not just heroin addicts it's anti social youths aswell.

What angers me is that in my rent, I pay an amount for "security" it's an absolute joke. When the kids gain access to the flats they jam the door open, so in effect the intercom is a waste of space. As I said above, I also don't believe that the CCTV works.

I better stop now, I really could go on and on but I'm getting infuriated just writing it all down.

It is just so upsetting to see the area you have grown up in, which was once described as "posh" be turned into a **** hole caused by heroin addicts and other scummers.

Sorry I wasn't able to be more helpful.

I once worked on a team that were responsible for imposing ASBOs (anti-social behaviour orders), which were brought in by the Govt to address exactly the kind of behaviour you're talking about.

But it took forever to go through the process and required tons of evidence (cctv footage, witness statements etc), it was a nightmare for everyone involved.

Although that has just reminded me of one amusing case re a drunk who pestered his neighbours with loud music. He broke the conditions of his ASBO so was sent to prison for a while. Within 2 hours of being released he had dragged his stereo and speakers on to the roof of his house, and started singing "I'M BACK" at the top of his voice. (He was arrested)

Hope things work out for you.:
