my daughter has just started with them today (well the spots have started to come out today)

I have been told by nhs direct nurse to give her piriton to help with the infection inside & to use camomile lotion on the spots but how often do i put the camomile lotion on & can i put in on her genital area as she has a very big amount of spots there.

So far she's not been to bad but the nhs direct nurse said she will become very groggy & upset with it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanx beanz x

dab away as often as you can especially in areas where they get a little sweaty. There's another lotion you can get from Boots in a cream format (camomile and something else - sorry I can't remember but jsut ask them at the medicine dispensery)

Your daughter might not get groggy. Often kids are a little off it before the spots come out. We were all fine and drove my mother loopy cos' we were so active and bored.

Enjoy being in quarantine!!

Bath her in bicobanate soda thats good for chicken pox, and plenty of camomile lotion, and it will take its course.

Hope she feesl better.

I agree with the bicarb. My 4 year old has recently had them (then gave them to me!) and we found bicarbanate soda, 2 tablespoons, in the bath worked a treat. I didnt try Piriton on my daughter but I used it and it completely stopped the itching.
As for the genital area, our doctor advised us to use Vaseline to stop the spots/blisters getting infected. I also let her walk around without her knickers for a few days (it wasnt like we were going out anywhere!) so the area was cool.
Best of luck, am sure all will be fine. Better as a child than as a 36 year old like me..have never felt so ill whereas my little one only had mild discomfort.

she seems ok in herself.
she is not a child that gets all the stuff that goes round, this is the 1st time she will have had any 'kids illness'. hopefully she will be ok with it.
can anyone tell me if i need time off work or not? i work at a school & there are 2 pregnant women in the later stages.

She should stay away from school until the last spot has broken and scabbed over (5-7 days). Until then she is catching.
If you have had it you should be able to go to work without risking the health of the pregnant women, especially as if they have had it (very likely) there is no risk to them anyway. Just wash your hands and don't hug them (it's spread both by droplet and contact.) it's polite to inform them.

We used calamine lotion and childrens antihistamine. I hope she'llcontinue to sail through it. :)

So, it seems Twingle 1 has chicken pox, she has 2 blisters which are totally text book and no more. Though she does has a temperature.
Anyone else had so few or should I expect an explosion tomorrow?

Not necessarily - my little girl had them twice! The first time, she had 9 spots in total, the second time she had loads! A warm bath ought to help bring them out, though.

Apparently there's a trend in families to have them twice - my older sister did, and a cousin of my mum's did too.

My youngest just had them. Like yours he had only two or three spots, exactly like chicken pox spots, but he did develop lots of little ulcers on his tongue. I kept expecting more spots but he never got any more and he was absolutely fine the whole time. The ulcers didn't affect his eating in any way either... no real surprises there.

She has another 3 or 4 this morning, face and back this time. I have my fingers crossed it will be a very mild case.

My five month old has just started with it. :( I thought they weren't supposed to get it so little, but am thinking the same as you Zebra, that it could be a v.mild version - only five spots yesterday and no new ones today. If they get it so young and so mild, I'm guessing this means they'll have no immunity to it and we'll have to go through it again at some point? Anyone have experience of it in little teeny ones??

Twingle 1 is now spectacularly spotty, I think I spoke too soon.
Any doubts I had are long gone, this will be fairly standard a case of pox by the looks of it :(

My lad had it this year - aged 18 months, and it was a breeze for him, no fever or anything. He was just extremely spotty. We had a fewe rough nights with him being restless and itchy but he was too young to know to scratch himself. After seeing how he experienced it, I'm convinced that it's right and the younger they get it, the easier it is. I had it at 18 and was really ill, I lost a few days to intense fever!
