View Full Version : Do men have Engagement Rings?
Lady_Cat 05-04-2007, 14:57 As the title says... Do men have engagement rings aswell as the women and if so where do you get them from? I have never seen them before and never heard of a man having one?
I am just curious as to what happens when a woman does the proposing etc.
Birth-Peace 05-04-2007, 14:58 I got my hubby a chunky titanium ring to celebrate our engagement.
He wore it till our wedding
Now I wear it on my thumb as its cool x
Yes they are called shackles.
Lady_Cat 05-04-2007, 15:00 Thats a good idea. :)
It is customary for the bloke to buy the girl a ring, and for the girl to buy the bloke a Ferrari of some kind .......................... honest it is.
You didn't know this did you, otherwise you wouldn't have asked. :)
My husband got a new golf club as an engagement present.

You mean you hadn't heard of the Ferrari commitment either? :o
babychickens 05-04-2007, 15:09 my guy gave me an engagement ring when he proposed, and i didn't have another ring as a wedding ring because i don't like to wear too much jewellery (although i've demanded a new ring for a 10th wedding anniversary). upon getting engaged we went and bought him an engagement ring, too - he wore it until the wedding, was then presented with it, and now wears it as a wedding ring. like olliek's guy, my guy chose a titanium one.
since an engagement ring represents that the wearer is no longer available (amoungst other things), i thought it was only fair that if i was wearing one, then my bloke should too. thankfully he agreed.

No he need never know :hihi: .
Jabberwocky 05-04-2007, 15:11 Im living with my other half and were classed as engaged by her family and our friends because we`re planning to get married.
One day...
One day in the far distant future if I have my way...
Anyway, I have an engagement ring, its a Titanuim one because I cant wear gold for any length of time without it trying to rot my finger off. So yeah, men wear engagement rings.
Lady_Cat 05-04-2007, 15:22 Thanks for all your replies!
I am taking a long think and doing my research about the Ferrari comment before i believe it :hihi:

The ferrari commitment basically means that if he thinks he's getting a ferrari he needs commiting to a hospital. :hihi:

i am engaged too but my partner won't wear an engagment ring, he doesn't like to wear jewellery so i have relented but i still keep trying :)
astronaut77 05-04-2007, 20:10 When we got engaged I bought my hubby a watch. He wouldn't have worn an engagement ring (mainly because he can't wear jewellery for work) but I wanted him to have something to keep.
funkymiss 05-04-2007, 20:11 My brother has an engagement ring. I think it's only fair!

Mr Scoop wouldn't have worn one either. He tried to get away without a wedding ring, but I refused to marry him without one.

angelgirluk 17-04-2007, 19:20 I was proposed to on my 18th birthday, but I bought him a ring too. It was a gold celtic band design, but you can go for anything really. It's a nice thought I think and greatly appreciated by the guy too. Go for it!!!

Did he keep it on when you were married and he had a wedding band, like the woman keeps her engagement ring on?
angelgirluk 02-05-2007, 19:23 Men seem to replace their 'engagement' ring with their wedding ring, not like us women, who are greedy & wear two haha!! Although I guess it is personal pref really!
Wearing rings isn't traditional for Hindus but something we picked up from the British.....
However my bloke insisted on an engagement ring. It's white gold and quite plain. Cost loads though (fat fingers).
His wedding band is platinum with a 0.3k diamond and half frosted. Cost more than both my rings put together.....
My hubby to be was desperate for an engagement ring !
(Thought....is not wanting one a sign that they don't want to advertise the fact they are engaged too widely ?? Hmmm....)
He settled on a plain narrow white gold band from Ortak (Orkney jeweller, in the Meadowhall centre) which he will pair with a narrow yellow gold one on the day itself. Ortak, or is it another Orkney based jeweller?) actually sell ringe for men consisting of multiple bands if you are unsure how they will look together. if you look around you may find one set with a small diamond !
angelgirluk 01-10-2007, 23:02 SO, have there been any wedding bells between us girlies just lately?! Everything hunky dory? I was at my friends wedding a month ago, which was a truly lovely day!!
