OK so wedding plans going really well but something we can't decide on is whether or not to buy a gift for each other.

What are people's opinions on this please? Is it just something that was a tradition many moons ago or do people still buy a pressie for each other (of course I'm talking between bride and groom here).

What are other people doing/have done? :help:

We were thinking about this, we kept thinking what gift would represent our love for one another and would be a keepsake forever, then we realised our wedding rings represent just that! Our rings will be our gift to each other! :)

Same as tattybear our wedding rings were our gift to each other.

So you agree with me that the playstation 3 he would like really isn't all that loving or traditional then!!!

:hihi:

I want some new perfume for my wedding day, something that I've not used before that will always remind me of the wedding day everyday I smell it. So I think we are going to buy each other perfume/aftershave...not that he knows that yet

I had always thought about buying each other the rings as gifts.
As for the engagement present, do you always have to buy each other engagement rings, or do people buy each other something nice and meaningful?
And does anybody know of a jewellers in Sheffield or any major city/town up North where they do these one-day workshops where you create your own rings? I had always thought this would be an exciting and original way of doing it. And/ or can you recommend independent jewellers shops? (on a quite limited budget, I'm afraid!)

I'm not sure about the workshop you talk about but we got my ring from PA Jewellers and can highly recommend them - incredibly helpful and a fantastic choice. We got Cueys from a website in America and it was an absolute bargin. If you went into a jewellers here and got them to measure what size ring you needed take a look at some websites because you can get them a lot cheaper on line.

We're not buying presents for each other. We have rings, each other, a honeymoon...etc...etc. What is tyhe point in yet another material gift?

If you can think of something which is genuinely personal and meaningful then go for it - but as most couples now pay for their own wedding the present to each other is the wedding itself.....

Edit: damn why isn't the bride's father paying for the this extortionate day? Geez, I'm taking the girl (technically more a lady these days but shhh!) of his hands........

Dear Cuey, your present should be that you are marrying me!! Things like an electric guitar or playstation 3 aren't really romantic now are they. People - please stop encouraging Cuey!!! ;)

He gets to marry me! That's a good enough gift!

Don't know how anyone can afford to buy extra presents for each other after everything else. And material things seem a bit, I dunno, kind of besides the point, after you've committed the rest of your lives to each other. Just having a bit or chill-out time together will be good. Besides, we both have our birthdays a matter of days before the wedding.

Why not do bride and groom journals. Its a diary where you write in everything in up to the big day and it also gives you questions to fill in.. such a lovely keepsake

I thought about hiring my h2b his favourite sports car to turn up to the church in. As its a nice, boy-present, being as the rest of the day will be fairly girly. Only thing is, chances are he'd forget he was getting married, having too much fun on his way there!

Definitely agree with the likes of tattybear and Kate55 - we thought about buying each other gifts but decided that the best present to each other was exactly what we were doing - getting married!! We did buy each other our wedding rings too so thats a lasting, memorable symbol.

We had perfume and Dartington crystal glasses engraved for the toasts, and still use them now which is nice.
