View Full Version : Hypnotherapy survey, help please
Hypnolady 04-04-2007, 21:08 I would like some opinions on how people view hypnotherapy and wondered if anyone would take part in a survey for me. All replies would be treated confidentially and I am happy for the answers to be pm'd, they will be deleted when I have read them.
Please be honest and add any comments at the end and if you have any questions please ask and I will reply.
Many thanks.
Have you ever used or are you currently seeing a hypnotherapist?
When would you be most likely to visit a hypnotherapist?
What problem would you go to a hypnotherapist for help with?
Would you prefer going to a clinic, have a home visit or go to the therapists home?
What characteristics would you look for in a therapist?
Where are you most likely to look for a therapist?
How much would you be willing to pay per session?
Would you prefer a group session or individual session?

h) Would you prefer a group session or individual session?
a) i have used one in the past
b) i had evening appointments and i went to an hypnotherapist because i was told there was no 'cure' for the problem which i had
c) i've used hypnotherapy cds for flying and quitting smoking, but i went to see a hypnotherapist in person with health problems
d) i went to the hypnotherapists home, which i liked because the environment felt warm and comfortable
e) pretty much what i'd look for in any relationship, personal or professional - warm, genuine, empathetic, respectful
f) close to home - as little travel as possible
g) i paid approx. £40 per session. i think maybe £30 would be more reasonable, but i felt that i had little choice
h) individual
To find out more about hypnotherapy have a look at http://www.hypnosiswebsite.co.uk/.
Hypnolady 05-04-2007, 14:27 Thanks for the feedback so far.
I have looked at the website, it gives info for and against Hypnosis.
One of the things it talks about is self-hypnosis and the use of pre-recorded cd's and tapes and also online hypnosis.
When I did my training we were taught not just how to hypnotize people (that was just a small part of the course) but how to be a therapist.
If someone has problems they often need support from a genuine caring human being who will listen and understand. Therapy is an individual thing as that is what we are individuals. No pre-recorded cd is going to offer you the same level of care and attention as you will receive from a therapist because we are there to help you and your welfare is our concern.
We all need to be heard, that's what therapy is all about, safe, non-judgemental support to help with change.
Please continue to give replies to my questions.
Thanks
Have you ever used or are you currently seeing a hypnotherapist?
Yes, I saw Gary Oke at Greenways Natural Health Centre in Totley, originally for giving up smoking and then later for something else that I'd rather not go into on a forum.
When would you be most likely to visit a hypnotherapist?
Rather an ambiguous question but based on your next question, I assume you mean what time of day/week. I went on a Saturday daytime which is the most convenient time for me.
What problem would you go to a hypnotherapist for help with?
Far more than I expected. I originally went for smoking but picked up the leaflet and looked at the website (www.okehypnotherapy.co.uk) and realised how many other less obvious things hypnotherapy can help with.
Would you prefer going to a clinic, have a home visit or go to the therapists home?
Definitely going to a clinic. I think seeing any kind of business or therapist from home is a bit unprofessional and also shows they are not successful enough to have a clinic. (edited to add: could also be a bit creepy, not so much for me but if my wife was booking an appointment with a stranger I wouldn't be comfortable with it being at his or her house).
What characteristics would you look for in a therapist?
I went on recommendation for the smoking. I found the therapist was very knowledgeable not just in his therapy but also the background to the problems he treats. I found him easy to talk to and quickly felt comfortable and relaxed talking to him which is why I went back to him for the second problem.
Where are you most likely to look for a therapist?
Another ambiguous question. Do you mean where geographically or where in respect of looking one up on the internet or in Yellow Pages? I went on recommendation from someone else who had seen him, so neither of the other scenarios really apply. In fact, thinking about it, had it not been for the fact someone I trust had recommended I try it, I would not have even looked into hypnotherapy. Therefore, geographically within a reasonable distance but where advertised I would say that I would only see someone that a friend would recommend.
How much would you be willing to pay per session?
I felt the prices were a bit high, until I had the therapy. The smoking package with the guarantee was £150 but I have not smoked for just over a year now, I would have spent £150 in a month on cigarettes so therefore, it's actually dirt cheap. The other problem has plagued me for almost all my life, it took 2 sessions at £50 per session, seems expensive but frankly, it changed my life forever. Based on the long term improvement in my quality of life, I would gladly pay that amount ten or twenty times over, in fact the improvement is pretty much priceless.
Would you prefer a group session or individual session?
Definitely individual. Even with the therapist I saw (he does group therapy as well), I would feel more comfortable not having to talk about things in front of other people.

a) have used a hypnotherapist in the past.
b) to help me overcome a problem I had
c) to help overcome my fear of surgery
d)I went to a clinic but think having a therapist visit me at home would increase the likelihood of it working.
e) preferably a woman, would have to trust them, feel some kind of connection if you see what I mean.
f) close to home and probably via word of mouth recommendation.
g) approx £30, no more than £40 a session, and with hopefully getting the problem sorted in one session.
h) Individual without a doubt.
