View Full Version : Gangway F crowd
Gypsy Hack 04-04-2007, 18:08 Anyone up for a pre-match Gangway F meet-up on Saturday. I'm off to a pub (in town prob) pre-match to watch Chelsea-Spurs and will head to Brammall Lane after.
Let me know if you're up for it.
happyhippy 04-04-2007, 19:12 Depends on when my eldest decides to get to the match. She's in the 13 year old "Don't mind/care" phase at the moment. Where are you thinking of? We usually go to either the Cricketers or sometimes the Sheaf.
Both bastions of tolerance ..........

Both bastions of tolerance ..........As far as I remember (only been in there a few times), the Sheaf doesn't show live matches. Does The Cricketers? I've never actually been in there on a matchday.
My usual pre-match pubs are either The Lescar (it's on my way) or The Old Monk.
where are you lot seated, im probably going to be late to the game, but will give you a nod if i see you

The Cricketers certainly doesn't, but I'll check about the Sheaf. It always used to have late matches on, but before a home match, it was Sky Sports News .......

Which Sheaf do you mean, guys? The real ale pub 'View' or the one on Bramall Lane? The 'Sheaf View' doesn't have it, man - they don't have TVs in there. A proper drinking pub - that's why I love it so much [hic] ;)
bladesufc1 05-04-2007, 09:55 i'm up for this.. The old monk in town is possibly best place to meet, then you can eat and drink whilst in the security of a blades pub

Aside from the footy has anyone watched any of the Cricket World Cup in the Monk yet? Have they had the sound on??
It's a bugger trying to find somewhere that does it & the Walkabout is just pants if its empty.
Isn't Chelsea v Tottenham on pay per view, not "normal" Sky?
Just thinking that if it is not all pubs show those.
F. Sidebottom 05-04-2007, 13:54 When you say Gangway F, is that short for all those who go the the lane, and leave half way through the first half shouting 'Gangway - flamin had enough of this rubbish, I'm crawlin back int' woodwork before we g' darn'

The one on Bramall Lane. The Sheaf View ........ mmmmmmm .......... beeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrr ................

The Pump will probably have it on, unless there's football on ........ even then, it may still keep the cricket on.
Robbie Loving 05-04-2007, 15:07 Jazzy, I believe they will have sound on yes for cricket, but can't say 100%..... shall we see :D
Gypsy Hack 06-04-2007, 18:36 Any news about the Sheaf yet hippy?
If that's showing it, then I'll go there cos it's closest to the ground. Otherwise I'll be in The Old Monk.

The pump has shut. It's going to be knocked down as part of the moor redevelopment

Correct, it has. Thats where we used to go :(
We've discovered The Roebuck has draught Budweiser now though so I reckon thats going to be our new watering hole before and after matches now.
We normally go in the Star Wars Bar (aka Moorfoot Tavern) after the match for a couple aswell.

I'm sure the Sheaf House will have it on, but it gets a bit jammed. I only go in the tap room in the Cricketers now, but I don't think they have Sky now (may be wrong). Having said that, my mates (other Gangway F followers) will probably imbibe in the Sheaf anyway ......

BALLY HELL! I know the old landlord took over the Sportsman, but I didn't think yet another of Sheffield's few city centre 'pub' type pubs had gone?

If it's showing, then I'll stop in there. If you happen to be in and see a mid-twenties bloke who probably looks like he needs a shave staring at the footy, come and say hi.
happyhippy 13-04-2007, 01:10 Well, I'm aiming to be in the Cricks earlyish before the Cockneys' match, and then trundle up to the Sheaf to meet my Dronny mates. Managed to get outside the Sheaf after the match last week, but didn't make the early doors.
If you see a bloke with long hair, and a long beard, it's probably me ........ especially if perched at the top of Gangway F .........
I quite fancied a few before the match as I'm told it's gonna 24 degrees on Sat. A few beers outside the Golden Lion was sounding beaut, until I found out I'm working. :(:gag:
I shall look out for you all on GangwayF. Can't miss me, lanky streak of pi$$, sat half way down, and always wander down the steps 5 mins after kickoff. I've not seen one kick off this season apart from Liverpool  :loopy:
happyhippy 13-04-2007, 01:49 I refuse to see kick off, as it's bad luck. Even if I'm in the ground (cos I'm usually in a minute late), I stand behind the Kop, or turn my back on the pitch.
Not that we're superstitious creatures at all.
I once heard the award of a penalty (v Birmingham, first match of the season about 95 - result 4-4), be blamed on the removal of a hat.
This season, I clearly have eyes in the back of my head.

I'm not as bad now (although I still do the missing the kick off), but when I was younger it was:
'lucky route to the ground'
'lucky pre match pi$$'
'lucky pi$$ just before half time when you're guaranteed to miss a goal'
'lucky boxer shorts'
'lucky programme seller'
:hihi::loopy:
I'm still seething at my 'lucky pi$$' at Wembley when I missed our only goal against the Wendies:rolleyes: , I think we lost cause I couldn't take my 'lucky route to the ground'
(awaits wendies posts, I'm aware that Jazzy is subscribed to this thread:hihi:)
happyhippy 13-04-2007, 02:14 Here's one for ya (going into Whitesnake mode)!
Paraphrased monologue off the Kop from the days of Hoddle being in charge of England .........
"Hoddle ...... what's that all about? Mind wobbler for the squad ....... interfering with their thoughts ......... what about football ........ faith healer ......... witch doctor ........ voodoo by another name ........ WHERE'S JOHN? HE'S NOT IN HIS SEAT! WE'LL NEVER GET A CHANCE FROM THIS CORNER NOW! I'VE FORGOTTEN MY SCARF, AND PETE HAS NO PURPLE SOCKS ON, THE ONES FROM HALIFAX AWAY! He were t'only one in t'ground to miss their goal. ........... SEE! I TELLED YER THEY'D SCORE ............"
Some bloody voodoo.

happyhippy 13-04-2007, 02:51 You know it's true .......... I've been in bladder scorching pain at away matches so that we didn't concede before halftime ....... but I think that pain has been felt by many others too ..........
I'm gangway E, does that stop me from being on here

You could pretend.
Stride graciously and convincingly down Gangway F.....:suspect: then uproot an entire row to get to your side:hihi:
Dot, gracious strides and football dont exactly go together if you know what I mean - more likely to be a stagger and stumble after a bit of pre match entertainment !!!

In which case you're an honorary member already :hihi:
