today i was out with one of my clients dogs and a lady was out and about with probably 6 dogs all loose!!! now is she a dog walker?
or were they her dogs.. three of the dogs approached the dog i was walking which i had on a lead. ok they werent aggressive but was i to know that?
do you ask your walker how he or she goes about his her walking your dog/s . are they running loose?
do you want them to be loose?
do want them group walked?
what concerns me that the most placid of dogs can turn into a pack fighting fiend when running loose with other dogs.
the lady just casually put the others in her van and had to call those away from us with a biscuit. dont people ever learn???

I would never ever have more than 2 dogs loose at any one time. Even then i am on my guard.
Also, my insurance policies always state - dogs are not insured if they are walked more than 6 - and they are never allowed off the lead.
no doubt yours will be the same pet-walkiz - and so if this is a walker - they won't have the owners dog insured?

Ours says no more than 4 to be off the lead!!!! and i have to say we don't walk in groups larger than 4 dogs as you need to be very aware of whats going on and of course keep your dogs in your care safe. The only group i walk is a boarder collie group where all 3 go off the lead but thats because they are only interested in sticks and i have the old boy plodding along side me as he thinks its his job to protect me!!!

this happened again yesterday with the same lady! and she had 9 dogs this time all wandering free off lead!!!! one of them came over and tried getting it on with our clients dog that was on a lead .... she said sorry hes out of control and he isnt my dog!! so she was told, he ought to be on a lead then ,..she walked off then one of her other dogs that she had was chasing someone elses dog and she couldnt get it back!! eventually she got all 9 dogs in the smallest car you can imagine .no not an estate , nor a van but a 2 door car. any comments??
it really isnt fair for those with dogs on leads to be struggling to keep them away from a dog heading towards them that isnt on a lead .

I would be very worried if my dog was walked in that way- I am paranoid about her getting nicked as it is and I have real worries about her near busy roads - I know when we first set out on a walk, she gets overexcited and can be difficult to handle, so I would never trust anyone to walk her other than my other half- that's one of the reasons why we never put her in kennels - if we thought she was getting walked outside the kennels and happened to get too giddy for a moment and get loose...doesn't bear thinking about. So employing a dog walker and knowing she wouldn't be getting individual attention is a definite no-no.

I alwsy fancied looking after other people's pets, ( I catsit already for neighbours and a friend on a regualr basis) - maybe acting as a petsitter or indoor 'kennels- would have to move to a much bigger place first and retire from work of course...oh but it sounds very tempting.

I wouldn't allow a walker to walk my dogs off their leads. For that reason I don't have a walker but entrust them to family whom the dogs will return to.

If one of my dogs went missing whilst out with my mum or my dad, of course I'd be heartbroken but I'm sure it'd be a lot easier to deal with than if they went missing when with a dog walker. I'd be worried about what this walker had done etc. etc.

I often used to walk around with people who have offlead dogs and there has, at any one time been around 8 offlead dogs running together.
I've loved to watch them run but I know there are at least 4 owners who are responsible for their own dogs.
We knew the dogs were comfortable with each other but don't walk in such a big group anymore due to Eddy not getting on with one of the other dogs in the group.

I wouldn't want one person to be in charge of all of those dogs and I certainly wouldn't want someone to take my dogs who was willing to allow them to run upto onlead dogs.

I've seen the lady in question I think and she has always had the dogs under perfect control. Obviously different dog walkers have different styles.

I would hate for my dog walker, who also happens to be a close friend, to walk my two on a lead when there is no need.

Clearly not if two of these dogs were allowed to run upto an onlead dog

Edit - just re-read your post, thought you said 'she always has the dogs under perfect control'. I wasn't getting at you anyway it just makes me incredibly angry when people allow dogs, however friendly to approach an onlead dog. And I'm not saying I've not done it myself, because I have but I have been angry at myself too!

That's the thing, when a friend of mine or family member have taken my dogs out, I don't mind them allowing them off the lead.
I just wouldn't want a dog walker that I didn't know personally, however reputable, to let my two off their leads. Particularly Eddy - I don't trust even close friends to control him off his lead.
