View Full Version : Crash in Arundel Gate underpass
Ousetunes 01-11-2004, 13:51 One of my earliest memories is of sitting on a grass bank where the Wedding Cake office used to be, overlooking the now filled in Arundel Gate underpass. The reason why I was there with my family is because we'd gone to see the emergency services dealing with a huge smash in the underpass itself.
Does anyone remember this incident? I reckon it was around 1974 and it was a summer's day. There were fire engines all over the place and some cars had suffered a head-on collision in the underpass.
It's one of those things that has stuck in my mind. If anyone can recall it, I'd be a very happy chappy.
one of drivers involved in the smash was avery good friend of mine his name was john savoury,he was driving a mini he thought that the underpass was a duel carriageway ithink the roads had just been changed.we were all shocked at what happend, but thankyou for reminding me about it iff you want to know more pm me

It does seem a bit morbid.

WallBuilder 07-11-2004, 16:51 I never liked driving through that underpass I felt hemmed in.
However up the road from there at the top of the Moor and outside McDonald's there was a pedestrian underpass, I can still remember seeing a woman who somehow had managed to drive her car down the sloping pathway into the underpass. The police officer talking to her was understandably confused as to how she'd left the road and then driven her car down to the end of the slope, it was clearly obvious as well that the car had been scraping along the wall most of the way down.
