Saints now play London Wasps in one semi-final and Leicester will play Llanelli Scarlets in the other. Martin Corry looked absolutely stunned when they came off. A tremendous win for the Saints, but could it cost their Premiership survival? I'm still astounded that Northampton are where they are. When my mob (Harlequins) went down, it was to do with no investment in the team, but the ground instead. How Bristol went too is beyond me, but Northampton? Facing relegation? The Tigers must be loving this. CorkerSWFC 02-04-2007, 00:44 That must be the first thread i have seen on rugby union how unpopular is that. CHAIRBOY 03-04-2007, 07:22 From what's brewing, this could be the last Heineken Cup? http://www.sportinglife.com/rugbyunion/news/story_get.cgi?STORY_NAME=rugby/07/04/03/RUGBYU_Clubs_Premier.html I thought there'd be a sting in the tail! Got to be Wasps! pedr 03-04-2007, 10:55 All the Northamton fixture congestion is music to my Worcester-supporting ears, I'm afraid :) Go Warriors!! From the radio, it sounded like Wasps were terrible first half ....... Northampton quickly out of the traps and an early try rocked Wasps who were making handling errors (I was trying to see tail-end of Chelsea game) but gradually Wasps turned their possession to better effect, squandered a great try opportunity but you knew one was around the corner and it duly arrived. Wasps turned the screw in the second half and Saints had a man sin-binned. Lewsey's introduction was also significant and in the end it was comfortable. They will need to be there at the start against the Tigers. happyhippy 22-04-2007, 19:26 Northampton quickly out of the traps and an early try rocked Wasps who were making handling errors (I was trying to see tail-end of Chelsea game) but gradually Wasps turned their possession to better effect, squandered a great try opportunity but you knew one was around the corner and it duly arrived. They will need to be there at the start against the Tigers. Without a doubt. I have to say though, a Saints v Tigers final would have been mouth watering, for the rivalry if nothing else. Has the involvement in this tourney possibly sounded the death knell for the Saints in the Premiership, though? CHAIRBOY 22-04-2007, 21:16 Worcester one point above Northampton. Both at home next weekend in their final match; Worcester to Saracens / Northampton to London Irish. Saracens have more to play for than Irish and after running Wasps close a fortnight ago, I would expect them to win at Worcester. I think Northampton ought to beat Irish at home, but after their shock lead today, they didn't create much else, although Wasps is a powerful team - with a reserve such as Lewsey! I don't want to upset our Worcester friend who posted but I didn't like the antics of the Worcester chairman about three years ago when he did everything to thwart Rotherham's bid into the top flight. happyhippy 23-04-2007, 16:42 Agreed that Sarry have much more to play for, but Irish are tough nuts to crack. Both games will be very tense. On the subject of Roth, a good friend of mine is a regular there, and his opinion is that the crowd don't want them to go up. They don't want to go back to Millmoor for a start! CHAIRBOY 23-04-2007, 19:38 Agreed that Sarry have much more to play for, but Irish are tough nuts to crack. Both games will be very tense. I meant in the period a few years ago when they made the Prem and played at Clifton Park. People were excited then to see so many internationals (when not rested) playing on their doorstep. The RFU seemed to want to move the goalposts mid-term in a bid to deny Roth. happyhippy 23-04-2007, 20:28 I meant in the period a few years ago when they made the Prem and played at Clifton Park. Even in the programme, in the roll of honour it says "promotion denied". It was one of the worst cases of snobbery ever. And that comes from a Harlequins fan. CHAIRBOY 21-05-2007, 18:00 Lawrence Dallaglio, my heartiest congratulations on an outstanding performance yesterday to lift the Heineken Cup. Back-room staff, some excellent tactical thinking carried out to the letter by the players. Thank goodness one team at Adams Park knows how to win! |
