View Full Version : Coalition
blade8885 31-10-2004, 19:52 does anyone know what's happened to coalition?? I know there are loads of wicked dnb nights coming up but some of the best nights i had last year were at coalition! Btw did anyone go to sneak VS metropolis on saturday? phat night
A_Partridge 31-10-2004, 22:35 Yeah love for it to start again but with the lack of venues at the moment, cant really see it happening. Gutted i missed S Vs M, i had to go to newcastle.
mr.blaze 01-11-2004, 07:09 Coalition is on hold at the moment. Drum & Bass Arena is at Corporation next and then at The Forum.
Also check out the Ridimption night at The Blind Centre.
mjlacey21 01-11-2004, 08:18 There's also supposed to be a weekend drum and bass, funk and breaks nights starting soon in an undisclosed location. From the sound of the description i reckon its going to be at Charles St. Cant think of anywhere else with 3 rooms. Check out the north forum on www.breakbeat.com for all events. Coalition crew post on there regularly.
mr.blaze 01-11-2004, 10:53 I don't think it would be in Charles St, for one it's been closed.
mjlacey21 01-11-2004, 11:08 Did it close? I didn't really consider it after Jungle Juice vanished and UG moved. Not enought clubs in Sheffield that don't have their weekend nights dominated by cheese!
mr.blaze 01-11-2004, 12:33 Yup it's long shut. Same racket as Element and a bar I won't mention.
mjlacey21 01-11-2004, 12:37 Really need more nightclubs! Am sick of all the drum and bass being during the week so i have to drag my sorry ass into work the next day with my ears still ringing. Wish D&BA would just buy a club in Sheffield.
There is a night called Primal Fusion next week at gatecrasher...dnb
A_Partridge 01-11-2004, 13:52 All jokes aside, if someone opened a decent club they would make an absolute killing.
mjlacey21 01-11-2004, 14:16 Is that the one on a thursday with is it Brockie and total science? Good mc's if i remember - was it shabba, skibba and det? Will Skibba turn up????? Would make a change!

ZERO seems to be doing well for itself for this very reason - and it has a weekend D&B allnighter every month (although I'm abit out of touch as the last D&B night I wnet to on a regular basis was NY Sushi when they were still at the Palais (pre Bed days) in the days of Kemistry & Storm etc)
Apart from Zero - there is a lack of decent venues in Sheffield - especially since the bed, the arches & element have all gone in the last year. Not sure how co-operative thr council would be in this current climate of helping a new venue off the ground...
mjlacey21 01-11-2004, 14:48 The drum and bass allnighter is the best on at the moment, only prob is my ex is one of the organisers and although i've been going to them I do get a lot of evils from him!
mr.blaze 02-11-2004, 07:19 Cooked Fish was the D&B night I liked most but it died a long time ago.
D&B Happenings are going on it's just a case of finding them. Most the good ones are the small ones that aren't advertised.
D&B Arena is back in full swing and .Zero is still doing nights.
Don't forget Tuesday Club as there's plenty going on there!
We'r planning some big outdoor events for the Summer next year so look out for them :D
mjlacey21 02-11-2004, 08:05 I generally know most of what's on in the north just from going out to drum and bass here for long enough to know most of the regulars etc. Tuesday club isn't that great for me just cos it's quite early in the week to get mashed and get to work for 8 next day. Even had to miss the valve cos i had a meeting - think i was the most gutted i've ever been!!
mr.blaze 02-11-2004, 09:13 Valve was da bombshiz apparently :D
Looks out for some happenins in Pubs n small rooms in November/December.
cellarhigh 08-11-2004, 15:39 the one with Brokie and Total Science is this *wednesday* (not thursday) @ gatecrasher aka republic. tickets are £10 I think
mjlacey21 08-11-2004, 15:41 not sure about this one. On the D&BA forum a few people said they'd not heard about it which is unusual in those circles and makes me think it might not get that busy, When Republic is quiet it feels so empty!
blade8885 08-11-2004, 16:18 this months SvM all nighter looks like a heavy night, its on the 27th and features hype, jmajik, hazard, clipz (wasn't he at roni size...?), frenzic and loads more. 10 quid i think. And at the tuesday club the same week, we got marky and zinc!!!!!!! How was dnbarena at the forum yesterday? didn't want to fork out 7 quid or how ever much it was for a 12.30 finish...

It was fantastic - they had a different layout to Peshay (last month) but like before it attracted a different people and an older crowd. Its my fave night dnb wise at the moment - they've got the perfect balance between low key Sunday vibes and it still being off the hook - kinda like the London scene.
DNBA prices have gone up which is gonna put people off... but it was still rammed last night and luckily I didn't pay. :hihi:

Yeah, theres a vibe of 'unauthenticity' surrounding this night, as its not local promoters... apparently its DJ Flight's brother who's putting it on (and Flight is a top lass) but thats all I know.

Innit.
Luckily I saw the Valve sound system a couple of years ago at a festival so I wasn't that miffed.
mjlacey21 09-11-2004, 08:07 Either way i'm still not convinced it will feel full. I thought the drum and bass arena at Corp felt fairly quiet and on a wednesday republic will be lucky to fill. Is it student exam time at the moment?

Yeah, last weeks event at Corp was quieter than usual - I think the price put people off, plus there was the allnighter at Zero the Sat before and theres TTC with dnb offerings everyweek for the stuudes.
I think its a reading week actually cos my mate is coming home this week - she'll probably want to drag me to GC1 but I can't really hack it or afford a >tenner+ for something I'll have to leave before the end!
I was also thinking - DNBA did Wednesdays at Republic a couple of years back and didn't utilise all 3 rooms yet these lot intend to according to the flyer?!
Glad to hear people had a good time at S v M. We're back 27th Nov with a True Playaz Allnighter - Hype, J Majik, Hazard, Clipz & Frenzic. Going to be heavy! Check the Notices section for more info.
Did anyone else go to Primal Fusion at Gatecrasher last Wednesday? It was very quiet unfortunatly, although Shabba & Skiba were flyering afterwards for their MC convention in London!! DnB wise the only other nights I know of coming up are Marky & Zinc at Tue Club 23rd Nov (going to be phat!) and us on the Sat of that week. Bassic Standardz is a night with the best local talent on at the uni (you don't need to be a student to go though). Not sure of their next date though.
Shame to lose Coalition, was a good night. Sheffield's lost so many venues over the past year.
coalition 15-11-2004, 09:02 Indeed it has been very sad to stop promoting after 4 good years in Sheffield ( really miss it!!) Got a feeling an event will pop up again and we'll insure the atmosphere for which we were known best will return in full force....rumours of a big one in february!! Any suggestions or anyone who wants to be involved in future events..give a shout!!! Till the next event thanks to everyone for their support over the past years- its always nice to hear that the (very very) hardwork-trust blood sweat and tears went into the events - was all appreciated!!!Peace

I heard there were only 150 people in their tops (and I bet half of them had guesties), a shame really.
I think DNBA are doing another Sunday night at the Forum next month - that'll be another good night for sure.
Lookin forwards to True Playaz already... better get myself some kip first.
bassman-x 16-11-2004, 15:07 coalition was da bomb, such a shame to lose such a good night run by genuinely committed and safe folks. Sheffield council really need fix up on the venues front, the city centre is being over-run with beer boys out for a fight and townie bars, decent nights are being driven out into less suitable venues, or worse forced to end as has happen to so many promoters recently.
DnB wise you can catch transmission sundays at the earl (queens road) every fortnight, next one on 28th November and there always some dnb for the last hour or so from me and 5 Hats.
On the 18th December we have Transmission V Subversion at the Everyone centre which will certainly feature a lot of dnb amongst other musical bits and bobs and is gonna be HUGE!
Check the website http://www.transmissionsheffield.co.uk/ for more info, it's in the process of being updated at the moment so there's not much there yet.
peace out
