View Full Version : School holidays, what to do?
I`m trying to plan out this school holiday so that my kids don`t get bored (and drive me insane)!Ive got the usual stuff planned, parks, swimming, bakewell, cinema etc., but was wondering if theres any events going off in sheffield (and the surrounding areas) over the next couple of weeks? Something that we can take the kids to, my boys are 2, 5 & 9.
your suggestions will be greatly appreciated and may just stop me losing my marbles!
Don_Kiddick 31-03-2007, 10:49 get some cake mixes n stuff in should it rain.
get some cheap plant pots & a 99p grow bag n some veg seeds & get em growing their own veg
the cake thing sounds good, they all like baking. as for the planting of seeds, every plant i have had, i have killed! poor things
Get them tidying their bedrooms. That should pass 7 or 8 days.
Then there's always the chimneys you can send them up.
Best days of my kids' lives, the school holidays were.

Or a book of trees and identify those and then get them to plant their own.
Don_Kiddick 31-03-2007, 11:33 National Rail Museum in York - go on the train!
Take a picnic
kittenta 31-03-2007, 11:34 If you can't find anything already organised, why don't you grab some friends and organise something yourselves :) A sports day in the park for example

kittenta 31-03-2007, 11:36 THIS (http://www.raring2go.co.uk/)may be helpful to you
The link here allows you to type in your postcode and it will find things going on in your area or surrounding areas, well worth a look
Lucy-Lastic 31-03-2007, 11:53 The Childrens Information Service on Leopold St have a fact sheet of events that they will post - why its not available on their website I do not know.
alirosdan 31-03-2007, 13:19 A sports day in the park for example
My 5 year old got a great sports day kit for his birthday. It contains 4 sacks; 4 eggs and spoons; 4 bean-bags; 2 three legged race straps, a finish line and a whistle. It is reduced in Boots at the moment from £8 to £6. The boys love it.
bubbly_bird8 31-03-2007, 14:49 There is a fun fair you could take them to at meadowhall. If you get The star it has free vouchers in it. It is open everyday at 1pm until 10.30pm. (until 15th april).
Let em run wild in the street annoying your neighbours, that what my neighbours kids tend to do.

they do that anyway!!
thanks a lot for all your suggestions, gonna put some of them into action this week. dosn`t anyone else find it difficult stopping their little darlings getting bored, the first week or so they enjoy the novelty of being off school then when you start running out of things to do they just mope about saying "i`m bored, what can i do?"
I am determined to pack the whole break with something!
Get them painting fence panels!
I was thinking about doing the train museum in york, is it fairly near the train station?
doddicus 02-04-2007, 09:27 Me and my partner took the kids to Sherwood Forest to the Robin Hood centre yesterday...the weather was glorious...we took a picnic and the dog.
If you go to the information centre there you can pick up a kids quiz sheet and you have to find answers to the many questions about Sherwood Forest...at the end of your stay you hand it in and they give the kids a little easter egg....really recommend a trip there....the kids loved it

Yes its a really short walk now - they have opened up a bridge so you can get there easily and its well signposted. Have a great day out:D
waxonwaxoff 02-04-2007, 10:20 Or a book of trees and identify those and then get them to plant their own.
If you go on the woodlands trust nature detectives site you can print off spotting sheets of leaves and wild flowers. children can also join and put in the dates of their first sightings.

Yes it's only a few minutes walk, and it's free to get in.
well you could pay someone to look after them and book yourself into a spa
cosywolf 16-05-2007, 12:03 Look at this thread (http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=204850) in the Parenting Group: family events and activities for 2007
I'm doing my level best to keep it updated week by week :)
