It happened around 10 past 6 the cop car has just got towed away from that little estate thing at the bottom of gleadless road.
it was right at the top of the banking.
And apparently there was about 15 blokes fighting in the wyvern car park.

The coppers are still in the wyvern apparently, and all the fellas ran off when they heard the cop car what crashed so i imagine they have all got away.
People reckon on our block that theres going to be some right hassle tonight.

3 16 yr olds beat up a 14 yr old ( no knives bats or anything)
the police was actually chasing a stolen car nothing to do with the fight
the rest of the youths not men was watching nothing to do with the wyvern pub
how stories get around

Thanks, Original, for the facts and a bit of common sense.
It doesn't do anyone any favours to sensationalise incidents. This sort of thing gives ammunition to those who want to believe that our estates are full of thugs and crime. Gleadless Valley is a great place to live & there are people who live there who are getting off their backsides & helping others.
It would be good if people checked the facts out before posting...

And the reason you probably saw a cop car speeding down gleadless road cause they were chasing a fella with a knife who ran from the wyvern pub.
As one of the neighbours told the coppers that he had a knife and ran behind the maisonettes
Now they are the real facts.
People on our block saw it and so did my missus.
So im not quite sure where you have got your info from.

there are 2 conflicting stories with small amounts of info being added without being related to this confusing and possibly non exsistent fight/jumping/theft.
a cop car crashed - yes?

Zebra
31-03-2007, 21:33
Hmm, now I don't know who fought but we saw a large group of youths congregating a few minutes before it happened and they didn't look happy chappies at all, asking for trouble is the phrase I would use.
I saw the police car which crashed who was in a full speed pursuit, in fact I was watching it at the time and I spoke to an officer on foot who confirmed there was a man with a knife.
All facts, all witnessed, in person.
I would imagine that the only people who can speculate about the truth of the matter would be those who didn't see. Those who saw it all cannot speculate because they know the truth.

Actually i was there i no everyone of the youths involved !!!!!!! The eldest been 17 yes it was stated 1 youth had a knife but it was a lie.I spoke with the 14yr olds mum today and she said he is fine. The fight was between a 14yr old and 15yr old until the 15yr olds brother started to get involved the lad was taking a good kicking by them so someone shouted hes got a knife and everyone run. by this time the police had been rung a few times. When the mum of the youth challenged those who had crashed their reply was we was on another job after joyriders !!!!!!!!!!other police officers then arrived and took statements from youths near the wyvern pub no arrests made..............

A speeding police car over took us at Gleadless Town End on Friday at about 6.15pm and then we saw it crashed at the bottom of the steep hill where Gleadless Road stops at a t-junction. Only saw one police man who was running fast up the side road away from the crashed car.

If, as you say, a "fight between youths" is "a simple everyday" event then doesn't that suggest to you that there is a serious problem?

What may i add you get on every estate not just GLEADLESS VALLEY

And if, as you say, it happens on every estate then isn't this problem widespread?

its called a lack of discipline and lack of places where young uns can direct there energy into something productive.
sometimes its just a heated disagreement.
our species is not a "civilised" as it likes to think, to how many warzones do we send our troops?

That's bull, and you know it. I lived at Herdings for a few years; I used to have a beer in all the Valley pubs, and the only respect you have to have is for those around you, as with everywhere else. You never HAVE to earn respect, just because of where you live.

'You have to earn it' - typical council estate mentality.

I never, ever, ever had a problem in the Valley, though there were always some scrotes being a pain (like everywhere - even Totley), but to say you have to 'earn respect' ....... bloody hell .......

I just hope that whatever happened, is sorted, and that peace reigns ....... to be honest, the Wyvern was always the best beer in the Valley ........

I can't believe people can be so blasé about violence these days :loopy:

Why not ? Children have been programmed with violent behaviour via TV and Console games etc for twenty years now. A recent report shows that with school bullying it's often the case that the victim is excluded and the perpetrator goes unpunished. That's :loopy:

[QUOTE=Greybeard;2105258]Why not ? Children have been programmed with violent behaviour via TV and Console games etc for twenty years now. QUOTE]

If the TV and Console games are to blame, then parents shouldn't let them watch the programs or play the violent games in the first place - this is why violent games have an age certificate rating.

Again, this is merely passing the buck, it's like saying "my hand hurts when I put it in boiling water" .. if this was the case, then don't do it!

Parents need to start taking responsibilities for their children. Children need to be disciplined more at home, this would then take the pressure off schools and behaviour would improve. The 'finger of blame' wouldn't then need to be pointed at them.

agree with you there on that one. parents should take more hand in what their children get up to. My son is 15 and he is not allowed to hang around street corners and he is not allowed games for his playstation that are 18 and over. strict I know but it works believe me. the only problem we have with our son is an untidy bedroom!

IMO thats not strict its common sense. I reckon your son will grow to be a better more respectful person because of it.

'Society' needs to start taking more responsibility for parents. Many parents these days don't get enough time to supervise their kids adequately. The economic pressure just to keep a roof over their heads and maintain a basic standard of living means the hours they need to work steals much of the time that should be devoted to parenting.

I wonder how many kids of 12 yrs plus get home before their parents get home from work ? And it's not just working hours. - commuting times are increasing year on year which can turn an eight hour 'shift' into a ten hour working day.

We have grandkids and do what we can to help with parenting, but the pressures on parents are far worse these days than they were thirty years ago.

We hope our son turns out ok and is happy. We live in gleadless and many of the kids he went to junior school with are tearaways. We do impose rules and many other parents do. but some don't because they don't want to. I worked for years when I was bringing my son up on my own and he did sometimes get home from school before I got home from work but that didnt hinder him at all. Even if you work and your child is home before you it is no reason to let them turn in to little tearaways! I got married and had another child (who is now 3) and she will have the same rules imposed on her!

Agreed. Britain is failing average families through the tax system, the benefit system, and by example. TV has a lot to answer for, only interested in filling the coffers these days, and taking money from people via corrupt phone ins, instead of trying to redress the balance of all the violence they promote and producing quality programmes. The govt should keep tighter controls. Everybody seems to be in the business of ripping working families off these days. Shame on them. Thank God for grandparents who lend a hand, like yourselves, but what about the growing number of grandparents who are more interested in their holidays, bingo and booze and who accept little or no responsibility for helping to raise their grandchildren?
