An Easter Sunday walk starting at Rivelin cafe at 10.30.

For those wanting a short walk (3-4 miles) we'll be headed up through the beautiful Rivelin Valley, then anyone who fancies a longer walk, we shall carry on up Wyming Brook to Lodge Moor. The total distance for the extended walk is @ 7/8 miles.

We're meeting at the cafe at Rivelin Dam for breakfast before setting off.
The walk will start at 10.30, so if anybody going for breakfast first ought to try and get there between 9.30 and 10.00.
This is a really nice walk, with Wyming Brook in particular being a spectacular climb, but also very rewarding.
It`s more than likely that when we reach Lodge Moor that we call at the Sportsman, which serves exceptionally good home-made food, including a carvery.
Any would-be walkers who have been thinking about trying a walk would be well-suited with this one. As well as the delights of the Rivelin and Wyming, there are also spectacular views from up at Lodge Moor. Not to mention 2 great eateries!
So if you have never been on a Forum walk, and fancy a lovely Spring stroll in gorgeous countryside in friendly company, then this is ideal for you.

The walk looks ok to me, but what will the traffic be like Easter Monday, and will there be 000`s of people milling round?
I normally avoid Derbyshire like the plague at Bank Holidays for this reason. Having said all that, where isnt going to be busy?
Langsett maybe, but that would def. have to be a car job if we did that

Loxley Valley and a coffee and marshmallows in the Plough in Bradfield? It's quite a flat walk, from what I can remember.

If you`re thinking linear walk, we need to know about bus service, or are you thinking there and back?

If you decide on Loxley Valley (or even Rivelin valley), then you can do a circular walk from Malin Bridge, and public transport would be provided by the trams which are running a Sunday service (on Easter Monday)! :D

I'm not sure about the buses... if they are running Sunday service, then they are about one an hour from Bradfield.

If Malin to Bradfield is too far for people, then there's always through the Loxley Valley up as far as the Nags Head, spot of refreshment, then walk back through the valley again, or over the common.

DAYUM! Yep- that was a linear walk, wasn't it? There and back would be too far, methinks.I was pooped after the THERE bit!
Back to the drawing board...
If we do the Carl Wark one - would we have to park in Hathersage?

I've had a looky at the bus services to/from Bradfield, and the only one I can find is the Stagecoach service 61/62.

On Bank Hols, they seem to leave from Hillsborough Interchange every 2 hours from 9.00 am, and returning from the Lower BRadfield Turning Circle every 2 hours from 12.24 , or the Old Horns at High Bradfield at 12.27.

How about:- Train to Grindleford, Tegness Road to top of White Edge, passing the Grouse inn (Car Park & Pub on the Frogatt Edge Road), along White Edge to Curbar Cross Road (Baslow Hill) onto the Wellington's Monument, pass the Eagle Stone on the way to Curbar Gap, (Car Park) along Froggatt Edge to the National Trust Car Park and then the Car Park at the Grouse Inn previously past. (Get a meal possibly), then back down the Tegness Road to Grindleford Station. (For a well earned cup of tea).
It is a lovely walk if the weather is fine.
No booze

That sounds a good walk Albert, but is it what we want on a Bank Holiday, being amongst 000`s of people? Might be best leaving that till another time.
I reckon on what I`ve read so far that Loxley Valley linear walk ending up at Bradfield would be the best bet. Nice steady 21/2 - 3 hour walk, pub at the end.......great!
Oh, and dare I say it, I`m not busy Sunday either, and am open to suggestions for then as well if anybody else is!

This threads gone quiet! What we going to do then? Loxley Valley, starting from Malin Bridge, walking to Bradfield, returning by bus?
ItIsNow, Feargal.........let`s have a decision!
Also, for new people in particular, how about a short introductory one for Sunday morning round Rivelin? Only 3/4 miles this, and mainly flat wasn`t it? Also, we could meet for bacon sarnies etc first in the cafe like we did last time :)

We are not around i'm afraid, but you have all confused me big style.

Started sun down Rivelin and then Norton Lees then then Mon Hathersage and all round the houses. I don't even have any idea of where you are going or even when. Maybe needs deciding. ;)

Hmmmm, seems like I`ve not done a right good job on this one! It was always going to be Rivelin, after the debate had taken place, and if you go to the start of the thread you`ll see definite arrangements for the walk.
But then again, if you`re not around, does it matter?...... Unless I`ve got that wrong too!
Anyway, just to set matters straight, the walk is from Rivelin cafe at 10.30 and will be for 3-4 miles for people just wanting a short walk, and 7-8 for anyone wanting to carry on up Wyming Brook to Lodge Moor.
Sorry `bout the confusion!

Don`t think Feargals coming, but Andrea is, so your roll-calls about right as far as we know! But then again, there have been people turning up out of the blue recently so who knows!
Incidentally, Easter treats all round courtesy of yours truly tomorrow, but be warned, it aint something to eat with ale, you`ll need a cuppa something.

What a smashing day we had today. Great weather, beautiful scenery, lovely people and scrummy food!
The path up Wyming Brook is truly wonderful, why on earth did I not find out about this before this year I wonder? And when you get to the top, the views are magnificent.
The stepping stones challenge set by the Walk Leader was an interesting task accomplished by all attempting it, and was a nice distraction on the return section, to say the least :hihi:
Would love to do this walk again in the summer, what say you fellow walkers?

You can count me in! I can't think that we would ever do a walk that was not beautiful as we live in such a wonderful part of the country but something tells me the Meat & Pot Pie was the icing on your cake today, next time I will be joining you!:D with mushy peas!

Yes, that was a beautiful walk, fabulous weather, great company. I'm really glad to have found you lot:) and I'd like to do it again in the summer too.

I wasn't sure I'd be able to do the full distance today so pretty pleased with myself that I managed it, but I think my legs are going to be stiff tomorrow.

Enjoy tomorrow's walk everyone.

No Grissom to take photos today but I took a couple. The one of the mother duck with her 3 little ducklings failed to take at all for some reason. But the one of Wyming Brook was passable so I've uploaded it as the first ever photo in my first ever web album and you can see it here: http://picasaweb.google.com/parkwoman/SFWalks

And you should post on both the photos thread and the thread for the walk that the photos are from - you get twice as much exposure that way as some people just look at the walk thread and others just look at the photos thread :)

The walk up Wyming Brook is something else Feargal. Don`t know if you`ve been up there. We all agreed that despite the fact that it`s a steep walk, through rocks and mud (aaagh) and basically one of the hardest climbs we`ve done, it`s actually easy-peasy to do cos there`s so much to see on the way up! You don`t realise how high you`ve climbed as you`re doing it. Does this make sense?

Muddy, me? Don`t be silly......as if
I climbed huge boulders to avoid the damn stuff yesterday, taking several walkers (our Andrea one of `em) with me to avoid it, and then ended up having to help `em down afterwards cos we`d gone so high up:)
Yep, went all weekend without a skerrick of mud on me, then that over-friendly mutt that came with us today jumps up and leaves pawmarks on me best white, only wore 20 times walking trousers, meaning I`m gonna have to wash `em at long last!
Message to Mutty - Hope Alberts toffee gives the mutts guts hell as revenge for the serial footmarks left on me! Gud gramma this eh?
