Has any body noticed the messeage somebody puts on bridges around Sheffield and also they appear on motorway bridges. The message is a word put on the bridge that reads *GOURANGA*
I thought it might be the manufactures name but could be wrong.

A religious bloke approached me on the moor a while ago. He called himself a monk He asked me to donate money for good causes. Before he let me go he hold up the word "Gouranga" on a clip board and ask me to say it. Then he said, it means "Be Happy".

So, maybe it's a Buddhist word. I'm sure Google will be able to help.

god damn, I have a personal vendetta on these people... they drive me nutty!! at least twice a week whilst i was at 6th form and walking through town home one of these guys stopped me trying to sell me some crappy CD or something, seriously how many times do they need telling... NO!!

one day me and some mates were walking together and he confronts us, I just carried on walking ignoring him and he starts trying to sell them the CD, he told them something like "don't listen to him, he doesn't like me!"... its like why does he confront me all the time if he knows I dont like him nor want his CD?

anyways, they're some random religious cult or something that are seriously annoying and need to learn that graffiti is illegal whether your a teenager or a religious monk person...

if you seen any weird diamond shapes or the word "believe" or "peace" its them... they do it everywhere!

it's a hare krishna expression meaning 'be happy', they are always at glastonbury saying it :) they are all over the country, mostly on the M1s bridges, but the M18 and M25 too :)

They should be prosecuted, just the same as anyone else putting graffiti on public bridges.
Just because they are a religious group they think they can please themselves.
Be happy my ****

So should the scruffbags who are trying to ban another mans hobby.

Fox Hunting is a age old sport, and should be kept for the people that enjoy it.

what the hell has fox hunting got to do with freaky monk guys??? and fox hunting with dogs should be banned, if they want to hunt fox's then pickup their gun and go shoot them not send dogs to half mame them and leave them to die slowly cus they're too careless to do a proper job

xafier, you are miles off course there, after the chase, from which the fox does at times escape, the hounds dispatch it with a fair amount of speed.
Shooting is not even close to being the answer, foxs that are shot but not killed often die a long and painful death from lead poisoning. The gunman has no way of catching up with a wounded fox, and in most cases just thinks his shot has missed.
Hunting will continue no matter what laws Blair and co pass, simply because it's the best way of controlling the fox population, short of exterminating them with poison.

Now back to the original subject.
I agree about the freaky monk guys :)

I remember being approached a few years ago on Fargate by someone working for "Gouranga". He was trying to raise money through donations to buy books for children in Africa.

Gouranga (the Golden one) is a name of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu, an incarnation of Sri Krishna who preached the glories of the holy name (Hare Krishna) throughout India 500 years ago. The sound of 'Gouranga' is extremely potent spiritually, just like the Hare Krishna mantra, and whoever hears or chants this name becomes liberated.
I thought everyone knew that.

I'm not particularly spiritual/religious but I smile when I see the word. Someone's gone to a lot of effort to cheer up the planet. I've known the meaning for some time and when I see it I do cheer up and smile, so it worked.

So it's a few stickers stuck on the side of a bridge, they're sharing happiness....there's a lot worse in life to complain about.

Hmm... I'm not sure many (any?) others share your feelings. Unfortunately, spreading happiness does not usually involve defacing buildings and structures with nonsense phrases.

When one asked me to pronounce gouranga 'cos it means "be happy" I said why? I already have a phrase that means that. It's "be happy" ;-)

Or, if written on an urban railway bridge, 'bus parking only'.
