View Full Version : What is your favourite breed of dog? slimsid2000 29-03-2007, 13:52 A question for all you dog lovers out there. Lotti 29-03-2007, 13:57 You know which I picked   And I would just like to take this opportunity to thank you for spelling it correctly!! Jabberwocky 29-03-2007, 14:00 I dont like dogs as a rule because they like to bite me, but if I was allowed one, Id go for a German Shepherd. Beautiful animals. Lotti 29-03-2007, 14:03 Jabberwocky, I think we need to get you socialising with my two ;) They won't bite you, I promise :D Hayley1 29-03-2007, 14:04 Border Collie, naturally, so I picked 'other' :D slimsid2000 29-03-2007, 14:11 You know which I picked   And I would just like to take this opportunity to thank you for spelling it correctly!! Pure chance Lotti:hihi: I took a guess and the letter came out in the right order.:D slimsid2000 29-03-2007, 14:20 I liked Old English Sheepdogs since I was about 8 years old. http://www.oes.org/assets/images/Old_English_Sheepdog_Champion_Denver.jpg samc 29-03-2007, 14:32 This month I adore Bassett Hounds - I haven't seen any for ages then I saw one 2 weeks ago and fell in love with him. foxycoxy 29-03-2007, 14:50 I'm seroiusly wanting to get a dog - and one of my top five favourite breeds is the Japanese Spitz with German Spitz coming in close second!! katkin 29-03-2007, 14:52 Doberman, of course. Becs 29-03-2007, 15:13 It's Rhodesian Ridgebacks for me - love everything about them! Possibly would have had a Ridgey pup about now if a certain beautiful Ridgey cross hadn't caught our eye!! :D Pipine 29-03-2007, 15:26 It's Rhodesian Ridgebacks for me - love everything about them! Possibly would have had a Ridgey pup about now if a certain beautiful Ridgey cross hadn't caught our eye!! :D Thats what I was going to say... we had two ridgebacks when I was a kid and they're lovely. I just saw one bounding around meersbrook park at lunchtime and it reminded me how lovely they are.. butterflylou 29-03-2007, 15:52 I have a black labrador but love German Shepherds - that's what we had when I was growing up. KATIEB_23 29-03-2007, 16:11 I ... love German Shepherds - that's what we had when I was growing up. Same here and they will always be my deep down favourite... but since getting Gadget I do find I have a particular soft spot for staffies now  medusa 29-03-2007, 16:14 I really rather like Irish wolf hounds, Newfoundlands, lurchers and Silukis. They're the same sort of scale as me (unfortunately my house is Yorkshire terrier sized though). carpetviper 29-03-2007, 18:08 Same here and they will always be my deep down favourite... but since getting Gadget I do find I have a particular soft spot for staffies now  you'd be in luck with poppy she looks like a smaller alsation with a staffy head:D crowefan 29-03-2007, 19:24 welsh terriers without a doubt Lotti 29-03-2007, 19:34 Thats what I was going to say... we had two ridgebacks when I was a kid and they're lovely. I just saw one bounding around meersbrook park at lunchtime and it reminded me how lovely they are.. That might be Sazzy's ridgeback, she lives near Meersbrook Park and he loves to bound!! TattyBear 29-03-2007, 19:39 Labradors all the way for me-Such family dogs! :) TattyBear 29-03-2007, 19:42 I love this poll. Can we add. #Mongrel. #Toy sized breeds (chihuahua etc...) #Jack russell #Boxer I just think it will narrow 'other' down abit. :) gnomi 29-03-2007, 19:45 i can honestly say that i dont have a fave type of dog,its all down to the individual i reckon! If i was forced to choose, itd have to be the incredibly common Heinze 57 breed! :hihi: scoop 29-03-2007, 19:46 I haven't voted as I love a few different breeds. Of course I love Labradors (though I admit to thinking they were a bit boring before we got the Chocador). But I also love Cavaliers, and have a fondness for most types of terrier, as they have such terrific personalities. sam1984 29-03-2007, 19:51 Border Collie, naturally, so I picked 'other' :D Same here as I have a 3 year Old Border Collie now and have wante one for years. I also love Cav King Charles Spaniels as I had one growing up katkin 29-03-2007, 20:08 I love this poll. Can we add. #Mongrel. #Toy sized breeds (chihuahua etc...) #Jack russell #Boxer I just think it will narrow 'other' down abit. :) ...but you couldn't really do that without considering the Top 20 dog breeds (according to the Kennel Club) Breed No. of registrations 1. Amyrach 29-03-2007, 23:21 I really rather like Irish wolf hounds, Newfoundlands, lurchers and Silukis. I was merely expanding on the suggestion by a previous poster who suggested 2 -3 other breeds ought to have been added to the list- that being the case, why not expand the original list to a recognised top 20 AND other. StarSparkle 30-03-2007, 19:54 I'm seroiusly wanting to get a dog - and one of my top five favourite breeds is the Japanese Spitz with German Spitz coming in close second!! I've promised myself since I was a child that one day I would be the proud owner of a Samoyed  - one day... But I also love Labradors, Newfoundlands, German Spitz, Huskies and Japanese Akitas. And Westies are so very cute! Quite a mix :) StarSparkle cavi lover 30-03-2007, 20:37 Hi I am new to the forum. I am the crazy owner of 4 yes 4 cavliers.. So of course the best are cavalier king charles spaniels. I have two rehomed ex breeding bitches and two sub standard by breeders standards boys all wonderful. Hope to get to know folks soon. J x katkin 30-03-2007, 20:51 welcome to the group cavi lover - you obviously do love the breed xK katkin 30-03-2007, 20:55 I've promised myself since I was a child that one day I would be the proud owner of a Samoyed  - one day... But I also love Labradors, Newfoundlands, German Spitz, Huskies and Japanese Akitas. And Westies are so very cute! Quite a mix :) StarSparkle As well as the daft dobermans, I too love: Newfies, Akitas, Huskies, Rotties, all the Spitz's, the Pointer, Gordon Setter, Sheltie, Dalmatian, GSD, Belgian Shepherd Dog, English Toy Terrier, Manchester Terrier, chocolate Labs, Hamiltonstovare, Cerneco Del Etna, Pharoah Hound, Irish Wolfhound, Greyhound, Beauceron, Border Collie...Heinz 57..OK why don't I just admit it - I LOVE DOGS. Anj1364 30-03-2007, 21:06 Labrador/Retriever without a doubt. Although I love most dogs as a rule this breed is my favourite. Anj1364 30-03-2007, 21:07 Labrador/Retriever without a doubt. Although I love most dogs as a rule this breed is my favourite. My mum and I have mongrels (sisters) Black and white jack russell (somewhere) cross and they are two of the nicest natured dogs you could ever meet. Shiesh 30-03-2007, 21:08 I love the Shetland Sheepdog/Sheltie (http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y144/shieshuk/MaxKids.jpg) I must say I do quite like West Highland Whites but have never owned one....I think I am saving myself for one for my 70th birthday :hihi: Thunzi 30-03-2007, 23:39 Had to vote other, Boxers rule. :) Ally68 30-03-2007, 23:55 It would be easier to vote which kind of dog don't you like. I voted Labrador (retriever) cos we have one. I grew up with a labrador retriever too. I love most dogs though. There are two types I would never consider owning though. The first being a Poodle as I don't really class this as a dog. :hihi: The second being a German Shepperd. The reason being that, in my experience, they have the most problems with other types of dogs. Our dog is the most friendliest dog you could ever wish to meet but as soon as he sees a German Shepperd he gives it a wide berth. I have seen that he's not the only dog who has this problem with this breed. Strix 31-03-2007, 01:35 I'm fairly certain we can only have 10 options in a poll :( it depends on what day it is and what somebody has been up to lately as to whether Beagles are my favourite breed or not :hihi: sazzy69 31-03-2007, 07:48 damn i didnt see the 'other' option:loopy: my favorite has't to be a ridgey  katkin 31-03-2007, 10:13 It would be easier to vote which kind of dog don't you like. I have seen that he's not the only dog who has this problem with this breed. I love GSDs and dont have a problem with them. There are 2 breeds of dog which almost always try to have a go at our dobermutt- the westie and the staffie, having said that, I grew up with a westie and I really dont mind staffies, just wouldnt be able to own one with the dramaqueen dobermut. madcow 01-04-2007, 18:49 for me it has to be the "staffy", excellent little dog, will take as much or as little exercise as you can give, tremendously loyal, great with kids. alas due to nature of the breed when kept in wrong hands has lead to a reputation the breed doe's not deserve. personally i have had two,my first died of old age and my second was put to sleep after contracting liver cancer. alas due to work commitments we don't have a "staffy" ar present but we do have a little yorkie, who is full of character,he is a little easier for my mother-in-law ( she lives next door) to look after while my wife and i are at work BlackVelvet 01-04-2007, 20:51 as the forum pet groups sled-dog officianado, have to say mostly offended siberian husky is not on the list :( ........so voted 'other' rach73 02-04-2007, 20:27 Absolutly love Rotties, I own a gorgeous boy, who is the most softest, daftist thing you could come across. I agree its how they brought up, I would trust him 100% with my kids. Love him to bits Rach slimsid2000 07-04-2007, 14:17 It's Rhodesian Ridgebacks for me - love everything about them! Possibly would have had a Ridgey pup about now if a certain beautiful Ridgey cross hadn't caught our eye!! :D Someone posted a picture not that long back of a Rhodesian Ridgeback pup. He looked lovely but I bet they can be quite a handful as they get bigger. Ginner 13-04-2007, 22:57 English Bull Terrier for me, although Rotties are fast becoming a favourite too. There are 3 or 4 male Rotties near us and they're all gorgeous. Our EBT is in love with them all (she's such a tart). nonek 19-04-2007, 21:48 It has to be a rottie for me:D Rainrescue 19-04-2007, 22:19 I can't believe you have'n't put the slobbery mastiff's on here so my vote has to go for a mastiff of some type - the more slobbery gets the vote Andrew B 22-04-2007, 06:56 LABRADOR RETRIEVER Lovely Dogs, great familiy dogs as well. Did you know that they have the best sense of smell of all the dog breads.? The only reason they are not used as drug sniffer dogs all the time is because an adult weighs 80lbs. A little bit heave to be lifting into loft spaces.:hihi: charlieb 22-04-2007, 12:26 My mum bred Pekes. They are wonderful little dogs Flourish 27-06-2007, 14:03 Bassett Hounds all the way! Lotti 27-06-2007, 14:08 LABRADOR RETRIEVER Lovely Dogs, great familiy dogs as well. Did you know that they have the best sense of smell of all the dog breads.? The only reason they are not used as drug sniffer dogs all the time is because an adult weighs 80lbs. A little bit heave to be lifting into loft spaces.:hihi: Better than scent hounds? :suspect: Leg-end 27-09-2007, 10:44 Border Collie (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Border_Collie ) German Shepard (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_shepard ) Labrador (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Labrador_dog ) All have amazing attributes. Mathom 27-09-2007, 11:31 Of the smaller dogs I love Pugs, Border Terriers and Cocker Spaniels, and of the big dogs it's got to be German Shorthaired Pointers, Choc Labradors and lumbering Great Danes. sarah1 27-09-2007, 11:42 The one dog I'd love to have if I had the space (and no cat to object) would be a Great Dane.. They just appear to me to be the biggest, most daftest, softest dogs.. Helly 27-09-2007, 11:51 I've promised myself since I was a child that one day I would be the proud owner of a Samoyed  - one day... But I also love Labradors, Newfoundlands, German Spitz, Huskies and Japanese Akitas. And Westies are so very cute! Quite a mix :) StarSparkle Sammys really are the way forward! (If a little vocal) They definitely get my vote. katkin 27-09-2007, 12:01 The one dog I'd love to have if I had the space (and no cat to object) would be a Great Dane.. They just appear to me to be the biggest, most daftest, softest dogs.. Dont get me started on Great Danes -I LOVE them but couldnt bear to own one knowng they have such a short life expectancy... Helly 27-09-2007, 12:12 Yet look how long Scooby Doo's been going ;) Them cow Great Danes (Harlequins) look amazing! medusa 27-09-2007, 12:13 I rather like Irish wolf hounds, Newfoundlands, lurchers and Silukis. They're the same sort of scale as me (unfortunately my house is Yorkshire terrier sized though). Well- so much for my statement about needing any dog I had to be small. How small does she (http://s25.photobucket.com/albums/c54/mewsletter/?action=view¤t=Molly21309.07001.jpg) look? steve_m 27-09-2007, 20:04 Without a doubt Basenji. swfcgal 27-09-2007, 21:35 I love Old Englishes. I grew up with one and he was the daftest, soppiest dog you could ever know! He was expensive mind, my dad had him clipped roughly every 6 months and he would go through a big sack of food a week. I'd love to have another, but our Lurcher is enough at the minute, he's getting older (he's nearly 8 ) but still acts like a 1 year old puppy! knighthawk 27-09-2007, 23:28 Deffo rottys for me ... heres a few pics of mine 12month old and like a donkey http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d174/kneetrembler67/DSC00020.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d174/kneetrembler67/DSC00022.jpg julado 28-09-2007, 00:01 http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff82/julado/bonzo.jpg Whatever Bonzo is then that is my favourite......his Mummy is dalmation - the father could either be collie, staffy or labrador. If it went on the basis that the dogs get to look like their owners then my favourite would be a Red Setter in the vain hope that I would get to look like it! :D Lotti 28-09-2007, 00:08 I'd have never guessed he was part dally julado! He's beautiful! I can see the staffy in there! julado 28-09-2007, 00:16 I'd have never guessed he was part dally julado! He's beautiful! I can see the staffy in there! (not so) little poochy pooch is soooo cute!!!!! beebe 28-09-2007, 09:38 I love my Bassett Hound Basil so Bassett Hounds would never have anything else Gatley 22-07-2008, 13:28 i love shar peis and german shepherds quicken 22-07-2008, 14:32 Akitas huskies German Shepherd (Alsatian) Plain Talker 22-07-2008, 14:41 terriers! definitely! I've had three JRT's, 2 Staffies, and an English BT, as well as the raggy-baggy, tatty bogle very old lad I have now, who is a mixture:- mother fox terrier X whippet , father a cairn-y Westie cross. the peggsta 22-07-2008, 15:18 Boxer is my fave breed,i have a boxer now and i think ill always have a boxer. |
