Offal.
Organs.
Wobbly bits.

Whats your favourite item of offal?

Is it tripe, chicklings and bag? Sweetmeats? Or the ever juicy sheeps brains on toast?

Personally, I`m quite fond of a nice pigs trotter. I would have chosen tripe but you simply cant get it here in Leicestershire and when you DO finally hunt it down, people gag as you eat it!

Actually pigs trotters are pretty hard to get hold of too.

So, whats YOUR organ of choice?

TELL ME! Or I`m sorry to say that I`ll be forced to eat your appendix.

I used to love liver and onions but about three years ago I overdosed on it, I had a plate and 5 lbs of liver with about three onions all nicely cooked in gravy.
I scoffed the lot and since that day, I cant even bear it now. I did the same with a duck a few years ago- ate an entire one to myself and now just the thought of it makes me squirm.

Anyone spot the shameless plug of my favouritest thread ever? :hihi:

When I was younger tripe for Saturday tea was a real treat in our house. Dad used to fetch it from the market and us kids couldn't wait for him to come home. He sometimes used to bring cow heel as well. Mmmmm! lovely with lashings of vinegar and we always had it with bread and butter. Haven't had any in years.

I had never had haggis until this year when I was in Glasgow and tried some and have got to say that I thoroughly enjoyed it. Can't stand black pudding though. Now that does make me want to throw up.:gag:

Haggis is fantastic as an occasional treat. Other than that liver cooked with bacon and onions, tongue (if that counts!) and heart is kinda nice too!!!

Cow, or to be more precise, very young calves.

I just think offal is awful! Sorry.................

I do however like haggis, but that's hardly surprising.

I've tried tripe in vinegar, tripe in milk, and tripe and onions. They tasted repectively of: bath sponge in vinegar, bath sponge in milk, and bath sponge with onions. I've never seen the attraction.

Now haggis is a different story. Absolutely gorgeous!

I'm not really one for stuff out of the engine room normally.

I've never heard of Blind Ash, that's a new one on me Pattricia. Take out the tripe, and perhaps the milk. The rest sounds gorgeous. I've never found tripe to taste of anything really. It's like chewing a sponge.

We have liver and onions served wih mashed potatos at least once a week. Love haggis when I can get hold of it.
Kidneys in meat and potato pie. Or shallow fried.
Black pudding.

In the not had it for years folder:-

Tripe served with a white sauce with lots of onions in it.
Pigs trotters
Brawn.

In the don't like it folder :-

Chitlin and bag, A mate brought some in the pub one night and even Dillon the dog would not eat it.

I've only had it in restaurants, usually Italian. K'Pasa does it. :)
Its normally fairly pricey for the amount you get.

Thanks.Didnt expect a reply as quick as that, as thought you were at work.(well you might be). I love italian food and veal, but I wonder how they get their hands on it,when butchers cant ? (I thought it was banned actually)

You can buy veal from Waitrose although it is a bit expensive you can sometimes get it reduced. They also stock haggis, a bit hard to find but its usually opposite the milk.

Haggis I love--but it's much better to go hunting the wild ones in the highlands than buying the tame factory-reared ones in the shops..

Tripe, brains and liver I like in moderate quantities--and sweetbread. Can you get that any more?
