New Xbox! The black ones are only a limited edition, though, but after that they'll be replacing the Premium with it. I really want one :( . Any 360, actually - I want to go the Wii60 way.
I personally would hang fire on it for a bit till more HD-DVD content is available on teh general Market.
That's not saying I won't get one, just not yet.
It doesn't have a built in HD-DVD player...
Besides, I don't really care about High Def video formats - I would be unlikely to buy the HDDVD addon, and it looks like Blu-Ray is going to 'win' anyway. It's games I care about.

Sorry to disagree, but I heard that Blue Ray is today's Betamax. One of the reasons is the same as well ~ it's too expensive.

Strange, my friends in the states tell me that Blu Ray films are out selling HD-DVD films about 3 to 1 and for every 1 movie that comes out on HD-DVD around 4 come out on Blu Ray.
Sony may have made a real cock up with the delays and such with the PS3 but they ain't going to let Blu Ray fail, they've got to much riding on it.

Erm.. SONY came up with BETAMAX pal.. lol..
Now, for everyone else...
The sale of Blu-Ray disc figures are somewhat 'skewed' by Sony themselves. They announced that 'Casino Royale' is the fastest to reach 100,000 units sold.
Its a lie, it has NOT sold 100,000. Almost 60% of those a FREE copies given to PS3 owners to make the Blu-Ray format look tempting.
Who at the end of the day is going to replace all their DVDs with Blu-Ray when HD-DVD is backwards compatible.
And don't bring up the VHS to DVD switch on me.... When was the last time you watched a VHS tape on your DVD player?

All the blu-ray players I've looked at can also play DVD and CD format, so the backwards compatibility is universal, not just restricted to HD-DVD players.
Sony may have exaggerated by adding the 'free' copies into the equation, but Casino Royale on Blu-Ray was still the first HD title to make the top ten SALES chart in the US, and overall the blu-ray discs are outselling HD-DVD. The main reason for this is, after all, the PS3 market which opened up HD titles more people.
I'll be converting my DVD collection over time as titles are released - mainly TV shows which will take up much less space on the shelf.
Meh, I plan on getting an HD-DVD drive eventually, when more HD-DVD content reaches teh UK, and I can afford a HD telly.

I purchased a HD DVD player before Xmas. I have already sold it and switched to Blu Ray.
Yes, I am miffed that i cannot get hold of any films from Universal pictures (HD-DVD only), but to be honest there is more choice for me now.
And looking at future releases, that is going to be the case for a long while.
And someone made the point that Blu Ray players are not backwards compatible with DVD.
Rubbish.
As for quality, I dont think you can choose between them.
Mr Goose 29-03-2007, 13:06 Just to back up earlier posts.. the Amazon sales charts seem to show that blu ray is clearly winning the next DVD format struggle.
My problem is that you need a top spec HD telly to do them justice...
Mr Goose 29-03-2007, 13:31 In fact, here be a link..

I'm getting the HD-DVD add-on for the 360 and will get a PS3 in 8-10 months once prices have dropped.
You have to remember that no matter which format wins, your movies don't suddenly stop working because the format didn't win!
And yes, BR is currently outselling HD-DVD in the US, it's the reverse in Europe but Sony haven't exactly made a big thing about it over here yet.
carpetviper 29-03-2007, 14:02 I have all three and I must say hd dvd look better on the xbox and my hd dvd player than the blue ray on my ps3 I only want the ps3 for the final fantasy series when they are released.
There is no difference in visual quality between HD-DVDs and BR nowadays. They use identical transfers for both in many cases so any differences you might see are down to the players. Also have to remember the PS3 and xbox aren't high end home cinema gear :)
carpetviper 30-03-2007, 12:45 No but my hi def dvd player is
Preacher Man 30-03-2007, 15:31 this is purely to better the ps3's hd and add the inexplicably left out hdmi output!
Yeah, they should call it Xbox 360 1.0 really as it's the machine they should have released in the first place.
According to gamefaqs.com the Xbox 360 Elite is out next week in the US.. No word of a UK release date yet afaik.
And apparently they're releasing the 120 Gig hard drive as a seperate add on for $90US (which equates to about £45-50 at current exchange rates).
Everything I've read says they're releasing the hard disk add-on for around $180 which equates to a complete rip-off which ever currency you convert it onto.
Say what you like about Sony but at least they put in standard connections on the ps3 so you aren't limited to proprietary technologies. MS, on the other hand, have you over a barrel for any upgrades you want to make.
Sony also came up with minidisk, and look what happened with them ;)
