These days i,m affraid that if a bus route does not make a profit they take it off irrespective of hardship caused to the community.
Thank Mrs Thatcher for that deregulating the buses back in the 80s.

Or maybe the kids chucking house bricks at the windows of the bus at night might have some reason it don't run anymore

I,m not sure about that Jon, maybe thats been happening but its spiting the whole comunity yet again because of yobs, the Post office have refused to replace 3 post boxes blon up by fireworks by brainless yobs yet again but now locals have to walk miles for a post box.
Thats unfair especially to the elders and instead of being loyal to the paying public they give in to the yobs.
Thats justice, incocent people paying for criminals actions.

The bus i was on was attacked by yobs going through Fox Hill and a house brick came through the side window:x

But, Cycleracer, what would you do? Keep building more post boxes so that the yobs can keep blowing them (and everyone's post) up?

Same with the bus companies - if the drivers and other passangers are being put at risk, the service won't run. It's not fair to say to the drivers that they have to take those kind of risks.

Hopefully the brainless yobs will blow themselves up with the fireworks, and then everyone else can just get on with their lives.

I agree that companies can't keep replacing/reparing things or putting staff at risk.

As for buses, they're a joke. I was thinking, whilst being stuck in traffic on Ecclesall Road at rush hour, what happened when the bus lanes came in? A busy road like that, suddenly halving in capacity. It doesn't take a genius to realise that at the same point the congestion would double, meaning long traffic jams which are more polluting than flowing traffic. But surely there was a reason for all the bus lanes? I kept an eye out on the bus lane for 15 mins whilst in the jam, then I realised what the reason was. So people in Mercs and 4x4s can skip the queues, because there were certainly no buses in that period! Lose the bus lanes, stop the anti-car policy, let traffic flow. Sometimes I think that the council deliberately makes traffic jams to try to get people out of their cars, such as when I see pedestrian crossings turning to red with no pedestrians anywhere near them, and then they turn to green for a good... 3 seconds. Its funny how when traffic lights are out of order, the traffic seems to flow a lot better.

Going back to Andys comment, i understand your point and its a valid one but more should be done to find these culprits and put them behind bars or bring in the Boot style camps to kick there asses good and proper.
It first of all should start by banning the sale of fireworks until November then we may all sleep in our beds at night instead of the constant Bang Bang Bang we get from early October.
